He was last seen on EastEnders in 2015 but it was just a fleeting visit. In the coming weeks, Dean Gaffney will return to Albert Square for good to reprise his role as the loveable Robbie Jackson.
Robbie first appeared in EastEnders way back in 1995 alongside the Jackson family and it was in 1994 that him and his friend Kevin find a dog which Robbie calls Wellard, and the rest as they say is history. Although of course Wellard did die back in 2008 after Bianca fed him a chocolate.
In 2003 Robbie decided to move to India with his girlfriend Nita and returned briefly in 2010 for Bianca’s wedding and announced that Nita was pregnant.
However, during his last visit to Walford in 2015, he revealed to his family that he had separated from his partner, Nita and had made the decision to move to Milton Keynes for a fresh start.
Speaking about his return, Dean said:
“I’m really happy to be back. I’m so lucky to be given the chance to work again with such a talented group of people. A big thank you to Sean (O’Connor) and the team. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Executive Producer Sean O’Connor spoke about Dean’s return and said:
“I’m thrilled to welcome back Dean as Robbie Jackson, one of EastEnders’ most loved and most popular characters.
Bridge Street Market has never quite been the same without Robbie policing it in his hi-viz jacket. Dean brings a wonderful warmth and fun to his portrayal of Robbie and I’m sure that audiences will take him to their hearts again, just as they have always done.”
EastEnders bosses are keeping tight-lipped about what exactly brings Robbie back home to the Square and if he’ll return on his own.
