Music fans have A LOT to look forward to!

From Bowie and Boyzone to Oasis, Lily Allen and JAŸ-Z, there’s no shortage of music documentaries coming to our screens in the coming weeks and months.

Whether revisiting the careers of some of music’s biggest names, going behind the scenes of highly anticipated reunions or offering an intimate look at artists’ lives away from the spotlight, these new documentaries promise plenty of revelations, nostalgia and unforgettable moments.

Here are 9 new music documentaries to look forward to...

BOWIE IN BERLIN: FINDING MR JONES

BBC TWO

Airing this autumn on BBC Two, Bowie in Berlin: Finding Mr Jones is a new 90-minute documentary marking the 50th anniversary of Bowie’s arrival in the German capital.

It will tell the story of a Bowie we’ve never seen by exploring one of the most important periods of his life, when he turned his back on fame and success and disappeared into the streets of Cold War Berlin, from 1976 to 1978.

With 2016 marking 10 years since his death, the artist formerly known as Ziggy Stardust has become an idol of our age, and yet away from the fans and celebrities lining up to pay their homage, the reality of Bowie as a shy, introspective and vulnerable man, who often found fame intolerable, is largely forgotten. This film promises to change that.

Made by Mindhouse and Blackstar Films, it'll be executive produced by Louis Theroux and Mandy Chang, and directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Francis Whately, who tells the story of Bowie’s Berlin years in Bowie’s own words, as well as the words of four remarkable women who shared his life during this time Bowie’s Berlin muses, Clare Shenstone, Romy Haag, Sarah-Rena Hine and Sydne Rome.

Each of these extraordinary women has their own unique insight into the singer’s life, art and character, providing a secret history of Bowie’s time in the city. These women saw a Bowie that nobody else saw, and all gave him something different, helping his regeneration into an artist who no longer needed to hide behind characters, but was happy to perform as himself, David Robert Jones.

BOYZONE: ONE FOR THE ROAD

SKY DOCUMENTARIES

This summer, Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Shane Lynch and Mikey Graham reunited for Boyzone's long-awaited and deeply emotional comeback, playing two landmark gigs at the Emirates Stadium, a moment many believed would never happen.

Following the success of Boyzone: No Matter What, which reignited global affection for one of pop’s most iconic boybands, a follow-up one-off documentary for Sky Documentaries promises to take fans behind the scenes as the band prepares to reunite for the very last time.

Against the backdrop of decades of personal history and the pressure of thousands of expectant fans, the band return carrying unresolved tensions and unfinished business from their final tour in 2019.

This time, they want to go out on their own terms and have the send-off that they, and the fans, so badly want.

One For The Road promises to be a warm, funny, raw and revealing story of friendship, forgiveness, ageing and legacy, and of the enduring bond between Boyzone and the fans who have stood by them through every chapter.

DUFFY DOCUMENTARY

Airing on Disney+, a new feature-length documentary will follow multi-award-winning Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy, as she shares her deeply personal story.

In the late 2000s, Duffy was one of the biggest names in music, with her multi-platinum album Rockferry and its lead single Mercy hitting the top of the charts across the globe. Everything was looking up. And then she disappeared.

For 10 years, Duffy vanished from the music scene, from social media, from the public eye, without a word. Then in 2020, Duffy published a harrowing post on her social media. She revealed that a decade earlier, she had been drugged, before being kidnapped and taken to another country, where she was violently and sexually abused. It had a devastating ripple effect across her entire life, cutting her off from the world. She’s barely been seen or heard from since, until now.

Documenting her life in this way for the first time, the documentary will be a retrospective film traversing Duffy’s life, from her upbringing in Wales, through to her meteoric rise to fame and her withdrawal from public life following her unfathomable experience.

Made by Rare TV, in partnership with Stellify Media, the untitled documentary will be driven by new, unprecedented access to Duffy, along with a rich and nostalgic archive, and interviews with family, friends, and close peers in the music industry.

JAMAL EDWARDS DOCUMENTARY

In 2027, the BBC will air a new 90-minute documentary, delving into the life and legacy of pioneering music entrepreneur Jamal Edwards, who passed away in 2022 at the age of 31

The untitled documentary, produced by Ventureland in association with Jamal’s family and SBTV, will follow Jamal's extraordinary rise to becoming one of the most influential figures in modern music and youth culture.

It will include never-before-seen footage and interviews with family, friends and artists who were close to Edwards, sharing personal stories, reflecting on his impact in the industry and exploring how he transformed SBTV from a grassroots YouTube channel into a global platform which helped launch the careers of international artists including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Dave and Jessie J.

JAŸ-Z IN 8

HBO MAX

Launching on HBO Max on Saturday 19th September, JAŸ-Z in 8, is an eight-part documentary that sees Rick Rubin, sit down with JAŸ-Z to discuss his music, lyrics, life experiences, and creative process.

Marking Rick Rubin’s directorial documentary debut, the series unfolds over many hours of candid conversation between two creative superstars.

The career-spanning series closely studies the ingenuity of JAŸ-Z's lyrics as he breaks down his writing process and traces how his words reflect his childhood, the experiences that shaped him, and the evolving world he navigated as his career grew.

As JAŸ-Z guides us through the words and music that informed the work, he shows the deep inextricable connection between art and life.

JESSICA SIMPSON DOCUMENTARY

Netflix recently announced that over 20 years since she invited cameras into her life with the reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, Jessica Simpson has invited the cameras back in to tell all in a new as-yet-untitled documentary, directed by Joe Pearlman.

In the years since, she’s sold more than 20 million records worldwide, launched one of the most successful celebrity licensing brands in history, and written a bestselling memoir, Open Book.

After a 15-year hiatus from original music, Jessica returned to recording and performing with her two 2025 Nashville Canyon EPs.

LILY ALLEN DOCUMENTARY

In 2027, Prime Video will air an exclusive new feature-length documentary charting the trailblazing life and work of Lily Allen, from her early years to the phenomenal success of her acclaimed album, West End Girl.

The retrospective documentary will chart Lily's extraordinary journey, from the "Queen of MySpace" who changed the rules of the music industry, to the cultural force she is today. As a pioneering woman in modern music, Lily's sharp wit and candid storytelling directly paved the way for a generation of today's biggest female artists.

Offering an intimate portrait of the life and career of a global icon and voice of a generation, Lily Allen, the documentary announcement comes off the back of Lily's phenomenal musical return with West End Girl, widely cited by critics as one of the most talked-about and culturally impactful album releases in recent years.

It'll feature interviews with those who know her best; building a rich and revealing portrait of an artist defined by her creative fearlessness. This is a story of resilience, reinvention, and an artist reclaiming her narrative on her own terms.

OASIS: DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER

Launching in cinemas this week inahead of a Disney+ rekease later this year, Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger, from Steven Knight, will chart Liam and Noel Gallagher’s triumphant reunion tour Oasis Live ’25, one of the most anticipated rock ‘n’ roll comebacks of our time.

The film is described as an unapologetically uplifting account of arguably the biggest musical event of 2025, capturing the experience and emotions of the band and their fans across the world.

The unique perspective includes rehearsal, backstage and onstage access as well as the first joint interviews with Noel and Liam in over 25 years.

Alongside the band’s sold-out world tour, the film also explores the profound emotional impact of this phenomenal global cultural moment and what their music means to audiences and generations worldwide.

TULISA: THE RECKONING

PARAMOUNT+

Set to air later this year on Paramount+, Tulisa: The Reckoning, is a new three-part docuseries following Tulisa as she reflects on her journey from the heights of fame in the 2010s to the setbacks and scrutiny that have shaped her life today.

For the first time, in her own words, she reveals how she survived it all. Told through an unfiltered lens, the series will chart Tulisa’s rise from N-Dubz to The X Factor, the intense media scrutiny that followed, including the infamous “Fake Sheikh” sting and her resilience in the face of it.

Made by Dorothy St Pictures, this isn’t just a story of survival, it’s a reckoning. After years of reflection, Tulisa is ready to confront and change the system that once brought her down.

Alongside her personal story, the series will also follow Tulisa’s campaign for press reform and stronger media regulation. Her campaign is set to launch with a Hacked Off rally on Wednesday 24 June at Central Hall Westminster, which the organisation says will bring together fellow victims of press misconduct and civil society leaders to call for change.
