Could you name the tune of a well-known song after hearing just a few short notes?

ITV1 has today announced that it will be bringing back its iconic gameshow Name That Tune, with Alison Hammond as host.

Each week, contestants will be pitted against each other as their music knowledge is put to the test in a series of fast-paced rounds, featuring tracks from the world’s best-loved artists and bands from across every genre - all building towards a nail-biting finale.

Every round is designed to challenge our music enthusiasts, asking just one simple question… Name That Tune. With a studio audience singing along and viewers at home invited to play from their living rooms, it's the ultimate soundtrack for all generations.

Name That Tune originally ran on ITV from 1976 to 1988, and its previous hosts were Tom O'Connor and Lionel Blair. 10 years later, in 1998, the show was revived by Channel 5, with host Jools Holland, and only ran for two series.

This new version is based on the successful US format, which is currently in its fifth season, and outperformed its previous fall delivery on FOX.

Joining Alison will be the iconic Name That Tune band, a group of elite musicians who have performed with some of the world’s biggest stars, including Adele and The Spice Girls. The band will be swapping the US stage for the UK, covering a plethora of music genres, in their inimitable style, live in front of a studio audience.

Can our competitors correctly decipher iconic riffs, melodies and lyrics from some of the biggest songs on the planet simply by hearing extracts from these well-known tracks? Or will they miss the beat and hit a sour note?

On hosting Name That Tune, Alison Hammond said "Host Alison Hammond said: "As a massive music lover, my biggest challenge as a host will be trying not to grab the mic and start singing along when one of my all-time favourite tunes comes on! And trust me… that will take serious self control! I grew up absolutely loving the original show so being part of this now feels like a real full-circle moment."

"I cannot wait to get into the studio, put the contestants through their paces, and see who really knows their music. And let me tell you, being joined by the super-talented Name That Tune band, who’ll be belting out some of the biggest songs on the planet in their own unique, electric style… oh, it’s going to be next-level. Bigger, louder, and more feel-good than ever this is going to be EPIC!"

To which ITV's Director of Entertainment, Reality & Daytime, Katie Rawcliffe, added "Name Tha Tune is such an iconic brand we are excited to be bringing this refreshed global format to the UK audience. It's a fun family series that not only sees contestants challenged in the studio, but viewers can play along with all the family, providing an unique playlist that spans generations."

Co-produced by Bright Entertainment (part of ITV Studios) and BiggerStage, Name That Tune will be executive produced by Clara Elliott and Martin Scott for Bright Entertainment, and Pat Kiely and Sean O'Riordan for BiggerStage.

Speaking ahead of the new series, Lily Wilson, MD for Bright Entertainment said "We are thrilled to be working alongside BiggerStage and bringing Name That Tune back to UK viewers, with the fabulous Alison at the helm. Get ready for addictive family play along and to shout at your screens!"

To which Sean O'Riordan, Chief Creative Officer for BiggerStage added "We’re excited to bring the iconic Name That Tune to ITV in partnership with Bright Entertainment. Supersizing this beloved format is going to be a real treat for viewers, as our amazing live band blast out the hits in a music contest like no other!"

Name That Tune is owned by Prestige Entertainment Group and is based on the format created by Harry Salter. FOX Entertainment Global facilitated the agreement between Prestige Entertainment Group, BiggerStage and ITV.

With a UK version on the way, Fox Entertainment Globa's President, Prentiss Fraser, said "With the continued success of the hit FOX series in the U.S, we’re thrilled to see it find a new home on such a fantastic network and excited to be part of bringing the UK version to life. We’re proud to have facilitated this partnership between Prestige Entertainment Group, BiggerStage, and ITV, introducing a proven audience favorite to ITV1 and ITVX."

To which Noah Rubenstein, President for Prestige Entertainment Group and Owner of Name That Tune, added "Name That Tune has been bringing people together through music for generations, and we’re excited to see ITV introduce it to a new era of UK audiences. With its unique mix of competition, nostalgia, and entertainment, this format continues to prove its global appeal."
