Bergerac returning to U for a third series

Damien Molony returns to Jersey as Jim Bergerac.

U has announced that Bergerac will return for a third series, with Jason Flemyng, Tessa Peake-Jones, Lee Ingleby and Georgia Tennant joining the cast of the reimagined detective drama.

As filming gets underway, Damien Molony is heading back to Jersey as Jim Bergerac, for a brand-new case, with Zoë Wanamaker also returning as Charlie Hungerford alongside Robert Gilbert as Barney Crozier, Sasha Behar as Uma Dalal, Celine Arden as Kara Molloy and Luke Nunn as Simon Calvert.

In series three, Bergerac will embark upon his most shocking case yet, when his only significant lead in a suspicious death is a DNA match to Jersey's most notorious unsolved case, the Devil's Hole murder.

To solve the case in the present, Bergerac must dig deep into the past as he uncovers evidence of a satanic cabal that goes right to the heart of Jersey society.

Meanwhile, with daughter Kim away at college, could Jim have finally met his perfect match when he meets down-to-earth physiotherapist Laura, played by Georgia Tennant, whilst Charlie's life falls apart when she confronts a home intruder with devastating consequences.

We also know that Jason Flemyng will play a character called Alistair, Tessa Peake Jones will play Carol, and Lee Ingleby will play Dominic.

Other guest stars include Sean Gilder as Les, Alexander Cobb as Jake, Sule Rimi as Jonathan, Matti Houghton as Catherine, Liam Garrigan as Patrick, Elen Rhys as Esme, and Sebastian Armesto as Edward.

Speaking ahead of the new series, UKTV's Head of Drama Commissioning, Helen Perry, said "Bergerac has become a firm favourite with our audiences, so we're thrilled to recommission it for a third series. The next chapter raises the stakes even further, with a gripping mystery that will keep audiences guessing until the very end."

To which BlackLight TV added "We can't wait to start shooting series three of Bergerac, a show that has become very close to our hearts. Fans can expect a mystery that will take Jim into some very dark corners of the beautiful landscape of Jersey, as he tries to crack a case that has haunted the Island for 30 years."

And Tricia Warwick, chief executive of Visit Jersey, said "Two series in, Bergerac has driven a real, measurable shift in visitor consideration for Jersey, and a third series only strengthens that trajectory."

"Last year, one in four visitors to the island had watched series one, and our latest research (YouGov) shows that Bergerac viewers are three times more likely to consider visiting in the future. We are thrilled to welcome the production team back for series three, showcasing even more of Jersey to new and longtime Bergerac fans."

Made by BlackLight TV, part of Banijay UK, in collaboration with Jersey‑based Westward Studios and supported by Visit Jersey, the new series of Bergerac, which was created by Toby Whithouse, will be written by Brian Fillis, alongside Catherine Tregenna and Ashley Sanders.

It'll be directed by Paul Wilmshurst and Tracey Larcombe, produced by Mike O'Regan and executive produced by Ben Bickerton, Philip Trethowan and Damien Molony for Blacklight TV, Brian Constantine for Westward Studios, and Helen Perry and Claire Hookway for UKTV.
