Following a meeting at Underworld, Lucas offers Carla a sympathetic ear and his words strike a chord as he shares his experience of living with an addict. Convincing her to take some time for herself, they head into town.
At No.1, as Peter tries to drag himself to the door, he collapses and Carla and Lucas arrive back to find Steve waiting with the news that Peter’s been rushed to hospital, drunk.
In hospital, a groggy Peter insists he has no idea what happened, and despite saying he hadn't been drinking, Carla doesn't believe a word.
When Lucas arrives asking after Peter, Carla is stunned when he suddenly asks her to return to Devon with him. When she speaks to Steve about his offer, he urges Carla to jump at the offer as Peter's an incurable drunk. Will she be swayed?
Back at the hospital, Peter begs Carla not to give up on him, but she's adamant she can’t spend the rest of her life like this. They’re interrupted as the consultant explains that Peter hadn’t been drinking and his disorientation was caused by toxins arising from his liver failure.
As Carla begs Peter for forgiveness, he orders her not to stay with him out of pity, but to do what will make her truly happy. What will she decide?
Carla isn't the only one feeling guilty, Steve too, regrets his treatment of Peter and Ken is appalled when Tracy tries to defend him and asks them to find somewhere else to live!
When Steve apologises to Peter for presuming he’d been drinking and encouraging Carla to leave him, Peter points out that he's supposed to be a mate.
Giving them a second chance, Ken tells Tracy that one more foot wrong from Steve, and they can find somewhere else to live.
