After being summoned to a meeting at the hospital, Ali is approached by Ronan's mother Patti who wants him to talk her through her son's final moments.
Struggling to keep his emotions in check, Ali lies and tells her that he did everything he could to save her son.
However, it's a very different story later when Ali breaks down in front of Michelle and tells her that he can’t live with the guilt.
When he later returns home drunk, Ali confides in Robert over how he killed Ronan and contemplates handing himself in to the police.
Instead, Robert suggests that he returns to his GP training so that he can save thousands of lives. In the meantime, Robert offers him a job in the Bistro kitchen for a few weeks until he returns to the hospital.
