BBC One has announced that filming has now wrapped on the third series of hit comedy Black Ops in Manchester and the North West, for the series which is set in London and the North West.

Gbemisola Ikumelo and Hammed Animashaun return as chaotic police community support officers turned spies Dom and Kay, who find themselves embarking on their first undercover mission for MI5. And keeping a close eye on proceedings is gang boss Tevin, played by Akemnji Ndifornyen.

This time around, Dom and Kay are handed what sounds like a simple assignment: uncover the identities of a secretive far-right terror group by infiltrating the world of a shady museum director who’s selling off priceless artefacts to fund their nefarious activities.

What could possibly go wrong? Quite a lot, as it turns out!

When a figure from Kay’s past – a past he’d rather forget – resurfaces, threatening not only the mission but also Dom and Kay’s friendship, the pair are thrown once again into a battle to keep the nation safe. Their high-wire caper takes in billionaires, a windsurfing incident, an impromptu trip to the Peak District and more opportunities for catastrophic disaster than ever before!

Alongside this announcement and a new pic, the BBC has confirmed that the guest cast for series three of Black Ops will be led by Alex Jennings as controversial historian Dr Charles Dunstable, and Denise Black as Jean, a pathologically unhelpful, rather jaded, long-term MI5 employee counting down the days to retirement.

Other guest stars include CJ Beckford, Al Nash and Neil Bell.

Speaking ahead of the new series, Gbemisola Ikumelo said "It's crazy that we're back doing this again and have somehow managed to make Dom and Kay’s lives even more chaotic! We’ve also been spoiled with the most amazing guest cast. So many ridiculously talented people who have come in and completely thrown themselves into the madness. I’m so excited for audiences to see it all come together. There are laughs, danger, questionable decisions and, naturally, plenty of Dom and Kay in over their heads!"

To which Akemnji Ndifornyen added "And that’s a wrap! We’ve had such a good time making series three and the guest cast have been absolutely brilliant. It’s always exciting to bring new characters into the Black Ops world and these guys have really gone for it. Dom, Kay and Tevin are back in the thick of it and, as usual, things don’t exactly go to plan. We can’t wait for audiences to see the chaos unfold!"

And Hammed Animashaun said "Black Ops series three! It still blows my mind! Filming has been a wild ride, although I’m not sure Kay would describe it that way as we put him through a lot this series, as you’d expect! We’ve had so much fun filming with some incredible actors joining in on the fun and madness, and I think it really comes across on screen. I can’t wait for everyone to see it and find out what mischief Dom and Kay get into!"

Made by BBC Studios Comedy, co-produced with Mondo Deluxe, Cool Story, and Swagbag Productions, Black Ops is created by Gbemisola Ikumelo, Akemnji Ndifornyen, Joe Tucker and Lloyd Woolf, who serve as executive producers alongside Josh Cole, with Rosco 5 as producer, Lynn Roberts as series producer and Yasmin Philgence as producer.
