FIRST LOOK Dreaming Whilst Black

Following a successful pilot in 2021, Adjani Salmon's comedy is heading to BBC Three for a six-part series and three first look images have been released ahead of the launch.

The pilot for Dreaming Whilst Black, itself adapted from the hugely popular web series co-written by Adjani Salmon and Ali Hughes, garnered a deluge of critical acclaim and a string of award wins and nominations for the creator, star and co-writer Salmon.

Loosely inspired by real-life events, Dreaming Whilst Black tells the story of Kwabena, an aspiring filmmaker stuck in a dead-end recruitment job who takes the first step to achieving his dream. However, he is quickly confronted with the tribulations of balancing finances, love, and his own sense of reality.

Joining creator Adjani Salmon will be Dani Moseley as Amy, who'll be joined by Demmy Ladipo as Maurice, Rachel Adedeji as Funmi and babirye bukilwa as Vanessa, who all also appeared in the pilot.

Also returning to the full series in supporting roles are Alexander Owen as Adam and Will Hislop as Lewis.

They'll be joined throughout the six-part series by Isy Suttie, Peter Serafinowicz, Roger Griffiths, Martina Laird, Jo Martin, Akemnji Ndifornyen and Steve Furst in recurring roles as well as Jessica Hynes and Ovie Soko in guest appearances.

Dreaming Whilst Black is co-produced by Big Deal Films and A24 who will distribute the series internationally, executive produced by Dhanny Joshi, Thomas Stogdon and Adjani Salmon, directed by Jermain Julien, Koby Adom, Sebastian Thiel and Joelle Mae David and produced by Nicola Gregory.

Dreaming Whilst Black launches late July on BBC Three
