Announced back in August, Kate & Koji (previously Kate & Kolo) centres around Kate, a working-class woman played by Brenda Blethyn who runs an old-fashioned café in a neglected seaside town and who develops a strong, if sometimes volatile, friendship with an asylum-seeking African doctor called Koji, played by Jimmy Akingbola.

Other cast members include Blake Harrison and Barbara Flynn and filming has now begun on the new six-part sitcom.

The series will be recorded at BBC Elstree Studios in Borehamwood, with filming due to begin on Thursday 23rd January and then every Friday at 7pm until the 28th February. If you'd like to attend a recording for free, please visit this website.

At the time of announcement, Managing Director at Hat Trick Productions, Jimmy Mulville said “ITV is the perfect home for Kate and Koji, written by two of the country’s top writers and with two great actors like Brenda and Jimmy, it’s a wonderfully funny and sometimes touching comedy about real people coping with life at the sharp end.”

Kate and Koji will air later this year on ITV
