FIRST LOOK Life

BBC have released a number of first look images and a first look trailer from their Doctor Foster spin-off Life, which stars Alison Steadman, Melissa Johns, Adrian Lester and Victoria Hamilton and airs this autumn on BBC One.

Created and written by Mike Bartlett and produced by Drama Republic, Life is set in Manchester and follows the stories of the residents of a large house divided into four flats.

As each of the four stories unfold and intertwine in surprising ways, they tell a larger story about what happens when we step out of our personal space and take a closer look into other people’s lives.

Life explores love, loss, birth, death, the ordinary, the extraordinary and everything in between. Alison Steadman plays Gail, who is married to Peter Davison's character Henry. But just as Gail is about to celebrate her 70th birthday, a chance encounter throws her whole life into question!

Melissa Johns plays heavily pregnant Hannah, who's happily coupled up with safe and stable Liam, played by Joshua James. She has her plans upended by the return of Andy, played by Calvin Demba, with whom she had a passionate one-night stand nine months previously...

Adrian Lester's character David meanwhile, is happily married to Kelly, played by Rachael Stirling but is conflicted by temptation when he meets the impulsive Saira on holiday, played by Saira Choudhry.

Eagle-eyed fans of Doctor Foster will of course recognise Victoria Hamilton who is reprising her role as Gemma Foster's neighbour Anna, who now goes by the name of 'Belle', seeking to rebuild her life anew as a pilates teacher.

However, her neatly ordered life is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of her chaotic 15 year-old niece Maya, played by Erin Kellyman.

Also reprising their role from Doctor Foster will be Adam James who later on in the series returns as Anna/Belle's now ex-husband Neil.

The six-part series also stars Erin Kellyman, Calvin Demba, Joshua James, Elaine Page and Susannah Fielding.
