BBC One has released a first look trailer and further new images, from their new five-part character-driven drama, The Cage, written and created by Tony Schumacher.

The five-part drama starts Sunday 26th April at 9pm, with all episodes available that day from 6am on BBC iPlayer. It promises to be a high-stakes, high-energy crime story set within the world of a Liverpool Casino with two unforgettable characters at its heart.

Leanne, played by Sheridan Smith, is the charismatic cashier at an inner-city casino who finds herself threatened with losing the family home and starts skimming cash from the casino safe to secure her family’s future.

When Leanne discovers her boss Matty, played by Michael Socha, is doing the same thing, their lives are set on a collision course; with each other, the local gangster they’re stealing from, and the police.

As Leanne’s loyalties are pulled in different directions, Matty battles with his inner demons meaning the pair will have to play every hand perfectly...

Joining Sheridan Smith and Michael Socha in The Cage, will be Barry Sloane as Gary, Geraldine James as Nancy, Anton Bibby as Thomas, Freya Jones as Emily, Sophie Mensah as Fen, Abby Mavers as Kelly, Shaun Mason as Alan, Louis Emerick as Paul, Ian Puleston Davies as Vincent, Julia Papp as Irina, Katy Carmichael as DCI Hannigan, Dave Hart as Danny, Eileen O’Brien as Nanna, Eithne Browne as Annie and Mona Goodwin as Trace.

Made by Element Pictures, The Cage is directed by Al Mackay, produced by Clare Shepherd, and was shot in and around Liverpool and Merseyside. It's executive produced by Hilary Martin for Fremantle, Christopher Aird, Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures, Lucy Richer for the BBC as well as Tony Schumacher and Sheridan Smith.

The Cage starts Sunday 26th April at 9pm on BBC One

The story of The Cage sounds packed with tension—two casino workers secretly stealing from the same safe while gangsters and police close in. It’s the kind of risky, unpredictable situation that keeps viewers hooked, almost like the chaotic timing and wild moves you see in Wacky Flip during a crazy stunt run.
