FIRST LOOK World on Fire

11 brand new images have been released ahead of the upcoming second series of hit BBC One drama World on Fire.


Created by Peter Bowker, the first series of World On Fire ended in November 2019. on BBC One and after averaging 6.7m viewers (30-day consolidation) per episode a second series was announced at the end of the show's final episode with a simple 'World on Fire will return' graphic.


Now almost four years later, eleven brand new images feature returning cast members Lesley Manville as Robina, Jonah Hauer-King as Harry, Blake Harrison as Stan, Julia Brown as Lois, Zofia Wichłacz as Kasia, Parker Sawyers as Albert and Eugénie Derouand as Henriette have been released.


They also offer a first glimpse of new cast members Mark Bonnar as the mysterious Sir James Danemere, Gregg Sulkin as brave but reckless RAF pilot David, Ahad Raza Mir as fearless and determined Rajib, who leads a specialist unit of the British Indian Army and Miriam Schiweck as the German teenager Marga, a dedicated member of the Band of German Maidens.


Returning cast will also include Cel Spellman as Joe, Yrsa Daley-Ward as Connie, Eryk Biedunkiewicz as Jan, Ewan Mitchell as Tom and Mateusz Więcławek as Grzegorz.


The first series followed three young people in the eye of the storm as World War II explodes around them. Nothing can survive unchanged. Not even love.


In series two, RAF pilots are sent to destroy German bombers prowling the skies above Manchester, with rescue operations underway on the streets below. The true reality of war has arrived in Britain.


It will tell the story of World War Two through the eyes of ordinary people, following intrepid young heroes fighting for freedom.


The new series promises to take viewers from the war-torn streets of Britain deep into Nazi Germany, the resistance within occupied France, and the brutal sands of the North African desert – where troops struggle to adapt to a very different kind of combat.


Produced by Mammoth Screen, series two will be written by Peter Bowker, Rachel Bennette and Matt Jones, produced by Amanda Black and Angie Daniell and directed by Drew Casson, Barney Cokeliss and Meenu Gaur. It will be executive produced by Peter Bowker, Sheena Bucktowonsing, Damien Timmer, Charlotte Webber and Helen Ziegler for Mammoth Screen in association with ITV Studios, Lucy Richer for the BBC, and Susanne Simpson and Rebecca Eaton for MASTERPIECE.
