TALKING POINTS | Kat Slater, Ozzy Osbourne, Vince Gilligan and Ted Lasso

Here's what's got me talking this week...

ree

It's that time of the week again when I take a look back at the last 7 days to see what has got me talking the most.

From Kat Slater taking over The Queen Vic to Ted Lasso's upcoming return and more, here are my 4 telly talking points of the week...

1

KAT SLATER

becomes the landlady of The Queen Vic in EastEnders

ree

Over a month into Ben Wadey's tenure as Executive Producer of EastEnders, Walford's beloved pub, The Queen Vic, now has a new landlady after Linda and Elaine decide to sell to Kat Slater, stopping the pub from falling into the hands of developers, or worse still, Ian Beale.

Of course, this isn't the first time that Kat has been landlady of The Queen Vic, back in 2010, she, Alfie and Phil were licensees until 2013, when Mick and Linda Carter took over. So it's quite fitting that Kat finds herself back behind that iconic bar once again.

Thursday's episode, Kat's first full day as landlady, had everything you would expect, a neighbourly conga line, Mo being arrested for being drunk and disorderly, Stacey revealing 'the truth' about where Alfie has been - telling Kat that he's with Cherry and the doof doof of all doof doofs as Alfie leaves his wife a voicemail, revealing the truth about Zoe. But will she listen to it?

So if Kat was hoping it would be a fresh start for her and family, the upcoming arrival of Zoe Slater is set to throw a huge curveball her way. Let's not forget that instead of sending Alfie the £50,000 from Martin's life insurance to help save Zoe, Stacey chose to give it to Kat to secure the pub.

This week, Kat helps throw a special celebration for Martin at The Vic for what would have been his 40th birthday. But with Alfie back in Walford, is Kat going to find out the truth about her daughter being in danger? Either way, Kat's new chapter as landlady of The Queen Vic, is one I am very much looking forward to.

OZZY OSBOURNE

passing away aged 76

ree

On Tuesday evening, the sad news broke that Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne had passed away at the age of 76, with his family releasing a statement that read "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time."

The sad new came just weeks after Ozzy reunited with Tony Iommi, Bill Ward, and Geezer Butler, for the first time in two decades, to perform at Back to the Beginning at Villa Park in his hometown of Birmingham.

Ozzy's farewell show, which also saw Metallica and Guns N’ Roses perform, and his daughter Kelly get engaged to Slipknot's Sid Wilson, raised a phenomenal £140m for charity and was the perfect way for Ozzy to round of his legacy.

Aside from music, Ozzy found a new generation of fans in 2002 thanks to MTV's hit reality series The Osbournes, which followed the chaotic home life of Ozzy, wife Sharon, daughter Kelly and son Jack. The first of its kind, the show ran for four seasons, was completely unfiltered, uncensored and full of Ozzy's now iconic one-liners and lead the way for a number of reality shows we know and love today.

Thoughts of course go out to his family, friends and his millions of fans around the world, at such a sad time.

VINCE GILLIGAN'S

new series for Apple TV+ getting its title and release date

ree

Announced back in September 2022, a lot of secrecy has surrounded Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator, Vince Gilligan's new series for Apple TV+. Up until this week, all we knew was that it would star Rhea Seehorn, was being described as "a blended, grounded genre drama" and had already been handed a second season.

This week, following a "Happiness is contagious" post across their socials, Apple TV+ finally revealed the show's title to be Pluribus, and announced that the nine-episode run would begin from Friday 7th November, with two episodes landing at launch, followed by one new episode each week with the season finale confirmed for Boxing Day.

Apple TV+ also gave us a little more information on what to expect from the "genre-bending" drama, which will follow the most miserable person on Earth who must save the world from happiness.

In addition to Seehorn, the series stars Karolina Wydra and Carlos Manuel Vesga with guest stars Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte.
