The Good Ship Murder returning to Channel 5 for two further series and a Christmas special

The first series averaged 2.1m viewers!

Following the huge success of the first series on Channel 5, expect more sun, more sea and more sinister plots as The Good Ship Murder, starring Shayne Ward as cabaret singer turned detective Jack Grayling and Catherine Tyldsley as the fiercely ambitious First Officer Kate Woods, will return for a second and third series as well as a Christmas special.

Promising more of the show’s unique blend of murder mystery and musical charm the upcoming series also welcome back Claire Sweeney as much loved Cruise Director Beverley Carnell.

As Jack and Kate continue their adventures, solving murder mysteries against the backdrop of the sparkling Mediterranean the ship will set sail for new horizons, with audiences treated to an array of stunning coastal destinations and a fresh wave of compelling mysteries to unravel.

The new series will see a host of guest stars join the voyage including fresh from his Hollyoaks exit, Ross Adams, (read my exclusive interview with him here) as new character Colin Smallwood.

Speaking about the news, Commissioning Editor, Drama, at Channel 5, Paul Testar said "Greg (Barnett, Commissioning Editor) and I are excited for these new tales on The Good Ship Murder. The blend of music, mystery, and beautiful locations was a winning formula that our viewers loved in series one, and we’re excited to be working with Clapperboard again to bring this series back.”

To which Managing Director of Clapperboard, Mike Benson added "Series one was something of a journey - or mid-price cruise - into the unknown… not least trying to film a drama on a cruise ship with 6000 holidaymakers heading to 8 different countries! However, we were delighted with how the concept found an audience and are thrilled to be making two more series packed with sun, showtunes and subterfuge."

The Good Ship Murder is produced by Clapperboard, in association with FIFTH SEASON and series two and series three will consist of eight episodes each. It'll be directed by Steve Hughes who will be joined by Merlyn Rice, produced by Jonathan Phillips and executive produced by Mike Benson, Andy Morgan and Paul Matthew Thompson.
