Tom Read Wilson and Vogue Williams to enter the I'm A Celeb jungle

What will the current campmates make of the two late arrivals?

Just as this year's campmates settle into camp life, two new celebrities will be entering the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! jungle.

Joining Aitch, Alex Scott, Angry Ginge, Eddie Kadi, Jack Osbourne, Kelly Brook, Lisa Riley, Martin Kemp, Ruby Wax, and Shona McGarty will be Celebs Go Dating favourite Tom Read Wilson and Podcaster and TV Presenter, Vogue Williams.

As one of this year's late entries, Tom Read Wilson admits he is as ‘fearful as a porcupine’ as he reveals it was ‘abject terror’ that made him accept the offer to take part.

Reflecting on his fears, Tom said "My first thought when they approached me about taking part was abject terror. But I have got a very strict rule in life. If the only reason that you don’t want to do it is fear, you must do it whatever it is. I’m fearful as a porcupine and I am very nervous that my grey cells won’t dance properly in camp, too."

"At home, I do a cryptic crossword every day, I always have a book on the go and I am a bit worried that my frontal lobes will drop off if I don’t have a lubricant for it. I can be vague at times and I don’t want to scatter brain cells over the camp!"

But Tom is determined to face up to his fears, explaining "My mantra is you must do it in spite of. It’s the unknown and things that I haven’t been nose to nose with that terrify me. It augments in your mind’s eye if you haven’t had an experience of something. In the case of a rodent, that augments hugely in a mind’s eye as I have never been nose-to-nose with one.”

A keen ‘culinary enthusiast’ rather than a ‘culinary wizard’, Tom says he is, however, more than happy to help cook some meals in the jungle. And it’s the chance to meet his fellow campmates from all walks of life, he adds, that he is most looking forward to. "Socialising is the aspect I am most excited about. My favourite thing about being alive is meeting people. And I am sure I am going to learn new things about myself because of the degree of socialisation. I live alone and it will be very different for me in a myriad way. Yes, historically my background is the theatre and I spend bags of time with them (actors), but I have never done it around the clock.”

And he insists the rice and beans diet won’t faze him. Nor will the famous eating Trials. "I feel as though you might want any protein when you are that hungry. If all you have been eating is rice and somebody presented any protein even if it were testicles, I think you would digest it rapaciously.”

As well as the excitement of meeting his fellow campmates, Tom also can’t wait to meet his heroes, Ant and Dec. "I have been fans of them since I was a grasshopper. Byker Grove was my vintage. They are old enough to be my entertainment when I was growing up and I am always following their careers with avidity. I love them."

On how he would feel if, as one of the late entries, he did eventually walk away with the ‘King of the Jungle’ crown?, Tom said "Oh gosh I can’t even think that far,” he replies. “I can’t even contemplate it. I can vaguely imagine being there. I can also sort of conjure an image of being there in that outfit but beyond that, my imagination doesn’t stretch that far. I am going to take it as it comes. Now this moment has arrived, it is a healthy dose of reality but I am feeling excited."

After recently turning the big ‘4-0’, Vogue Williams admits she has gotten too “comfortable in life” and wants to take on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! to step out of her comfort zone.

Outlining her reasons why she accepted the offer, Vogue said, "I always thought I wouldn’t do it, because I’ve gotten too comfortable in my life. I like to have eight hours of sleep, I like to eat nice things, I like to just chill out and I never put myself out of my comfort zone. Then when I turned 40, I started to get scared of ridiculous things. I didn’t want to be this person. Doing this is such a massive life experience and it is not something you can pay to do.

"So now I am 40, I think it will be pretty cool to do I’m A Celebrity…! Going on to explain why I’m A Celebrity… is tougher than anything she has ever taken on before, including Bear Grylls, she adds "I think this is going to be harder because when I did that, I had no responsibilities. I had nobody at home. I was braver back then too. I am scared of everything, but I think what I am going to struggle with the most is missing my children. I’m very worried about missing the kids, as I have never been away this long before and I spend such a huge amount of time with them. It will be my biggest struggle.”

Readily confessing she was fearful of even touching some animals in a petting zone she had arranged for one of her children’s birthday parties in the past, she is however, determined to face her fears head on. "I had a petting zone for a birthday party once. I touched a Chinchilla but that was about it! It’s good to face your phobias though.”

Happy to muck in with all the chores, Vogue confides she has been trying to cut down on her coffee intake before flying into Australia "I love food and I think I will find it hard.” But she says she doesn’t know how she will cope whiling away time in camp. Adding "Even when I have a day off, I am like, ‘Right, we will go and do this and this’. I very rarely sit and chill.”

Her husband, Spencer Matthews, has previously taken part in I'm A Celeb himself and on what he makes of her taking part, Vogue said "He is really happy,” she replies. “He is excited and he thinks I will enjoy it. But he is going to be doing his next challenge when I am in the middle of doing this! Thankfully, I have got a big Irish family who are helping us (with childcare).”

Laughing, she promises she will definitely be having a shower in the camp, but doesn’t think she will ever be able to be as iconic as previous contestant, Myleene Klass. "I will be having a shower, because I don’t want to be smelly. But I don’t think I will be doing a Myleene.”

On how she would feel if she were crowned the winner of this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Vogue insists she didn’t agree to take part to ‘win’. “I would love that, but I haven’t thought that will happen. There are so many people going in there and you never know. I didn’t say ‘yes’ to win, I said ‘yes’ to go. This is going to be a great time to reflect on a lot of things whilst in camp too. It’s so exciting, and it feels like a really fun and cool idea to do this."

I'm A Celebrity....Get Me Out of Here! continues nightly at 9pm on ITV1
