Book's Books is back open!



This week's best telly includes the return of Mark Gatiss' hit drama Bookish on U&Alibi, the launch of Sky Atlantic's 50 Cent-executive produced new drama Fightland and the return of The Voice UK, as Kelly Rowland joins the coaching line-up.


Elsewhere, Adults returns to Disney+ for a second season and Dark Matter returns to Apple TV for its second season.

THE VOICE UK

The Voice UK returns this week to ITV1 for its 14th series, with Kelly Rowland joining Sir Tom Jones, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, and The Voice UK veteran will.i.am as the show's newest coach.


Kelly brings with her, a wealth of industry experience and a fresh new dynamic to the battle to find the next champion of The Voice UK.


At the helm once again is presenter Emma Willis, who will guide the singers through every high note, chair turn, and dramatic showdown as they ultimately battle to win a life-changing record contract with music giants Universal Music Group, £50,000 in cash, and a dream holiday to Universal Orlando Resort in Florida.

BOOKISH

Bookish returns this week to U&Alibi for its second series, as Mark Gatiss returns to 1946 London to play the appropriately named Gabriel Book, who owns a bookshop in Archangel Lane and helps the police solve the strangest of crimes and the knottiest of murders.


In the opening two-parter of series two, Book is drawn into his most haunting case yet. When charismatic medium Harold Sneed, played by Jason Watkins, hosts a mysterious séance, a table full of suspects are suddenly under investigation.


Reuniting with Inspector Bliss, played by Elliot Levey, Book investigates a group of lost souls all searching for connections to the spirit world. Jack, played by Connor Finch, and Trottie, played by Polly Walker, devise a plan to investigate the private lives of the suspects.


Meanwhile, Nora, played by Buket Kömür, escapes her responsibilities to her uncle Yusuf, played by Youssef Kerkour, and the bookshop comes under threat as Sergeant Morris, played by Blake Harrison, begins an investigation of his own.


The new series also stars Rupert Graves, Simon Callow, Claire Skinner, Ruth Codd, Ingrid Oliver, Miranda Richardson and more.

 BRAND NEW DRAMA

FIGHTLAND

Launching this week on Sky Atlantic is Fightland, a new drama from Curtis Jackson (50 Cent), which tells the gripping story of redemption, betrayal and brutal ambition, in and out of the ring.


Fightland promises edge-of-your-seat action and a gritty setting populated by dangerous characters, this is a world of money and power never seen before.


On the night that British-born boxer Duke Kilroy, played by Howard Charles, becomes world heavyweight champion, a vicious assault leaves his brother, Calvin, dead. Duke is devastated and his reaction in the aftermath costs him eight years in a U.S. prison.


Upon his release, and after having made a sinister discovery, Duke returns home seeking vengeance against the man he believes set him up, the criminal kingpin and former promoter, Kingsley Marshall, played by Nicholas Pinnock. But Kingsley has vanished, leaving his children and wife, Joy, played by Deborah Ayorinde, who happens to be the love of Duke’s life, to pick up the pieces.


Working with a cartel desperate to control London’s drug market, Duke begins a high-risk game of infiltrating Kingsley’s empire to destroy it from within and smoke out his enemy. But amidst a volatile criminal landscape, and competing influences threatening to pull him off course, Duke will need to channel everything that made him a champion fighter into his bloody pursuit to win the ultimate victory, revenge for his brother.

Adults returns this week to Disney+ for its second season, as Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao and Owen Theale return as Samir, Billie, Paul, Issa and Anton, five friends crashing together in Samir’s childhood home.


Created by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, Adults is an ensemble comedy series about a group of twenty-somethings in New York leaning on each other to navigate love, work, friendship and family.

DARK MATTER


Friday 28th August on Apple TV



Dark Matter returns this week to Apple TV for its second season, as Joel Edgerton returns to the sci-fi drama as physicist, professor and family man Jason Dessen, and Jennifer Connelly returns as his wife, Daniela Dessen.


Season two picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe until the unimaginable forces them to run once again. As Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela’s growing paranoia pushes her to the brink, threatening to tear their fragile stability apart.


Elsewhere, Amanda and Ryan join forces in a desperate attempt to find their way home. With Blair determined to stop him, Leighton relentlessly chases his grand vision of creating a perfect world.
