Ton of new drama to get stuck into!



This week's best telly includes the launch of FOUR new dramas, including psychological thrillerThe Rapture on BBC One, new drama Furious on Disney+, Gomorrah prequel Gomorrah: The Origins on Sky Atlantic and 5's new crime comedy-drama Benidorm is Murder.


Elsewhere, Ghosts gets another remake, this time in Australia!

GHOSTS AUSTRALIA

Launching this week on BBC Three is Ghosts Australia, the latest remake of the hit British sitcom Ghosts.


Ghosts Australia follows young couple Kate and Sean, played by Tamala and Rowan Witt, who inherit Ramshead Manor, a rundown country estate after the timely death of Kate’s great-uncle.


They see it as a sign for a fresh new start, but after Kate has a near-death experience, she gains the ability to see and hear ghosts, and discovers there are several living in the mansion. Kate must navigate the ghosts' issues while trying to start a hotel business with Sean, who remains unable to see them.


It also stars Mandy McElhinney, Brent Hill, Ines English, Michelle Brasier, George Zhao and Jackson Tozer.

THE RAPTURE

Launching this week on BBC One is The Rapture, a new psychological thriller starring Ruth Madeley and India Amarteifio, which has been adapted from Liz Jensen’s bestselling novel.


The five-part drama is a high-stakes thriller which crackles with danger. Set in a heatwave, with protestors on the streets, forensic psychologist Gabs Fox, played by Ruth Madeley, starts a new job at a high-security psychiatric hospital where she meets 17-year-old Bethany Krall, played by India Amarteifio.


Bethany was convicted of murdering her mother but claims she is innocent. She is estranged from her father Leonard, played by Sam Hazeldine, who is the charismatic leader of an influential religious movement.


Bethany tells Gabs that she has psychic powers and can predict the future. But what will it take for Gabs to believe her? And if Bethany didn’t kill her mother, then who did?


The series also stars Stephen Campbell Moore, Lisa Palfrey, Siena Kelly, Naby Dakhli, Richard Elis, Dean Rehman, Robert Rhodes and Ruth Jones.

FURIOUS


Monday 27th July on Disney+



Launching this week on Disney+ is Furious, a brand new drama from executive producer Liz Meriwether, which follows FBI agent Alice Black, who's on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer.


Both walk their paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur.


The series stars Emmy Rossum, Lola Petticrew, Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Jake Lacy.

GOMORRAH: THE ORIGINS

Launching this week on Sky Atlantic is Gomorrah: The Origins, a prequel to the Gomorrah crime saga, which follows the criminal coming-of-age of a young Pietro Savastano.


Set in 1977 Naples, the series traces the criminal education of Pietro Savastano, a tough city kid from the poorest parts of Secondigliano.


As he and his friends survive through petty theft, Pietro dreams of becoming like local crime boss Angelo ‘A Sirena. When he earns the young boss’s favour, he is drawn into a dangerous power struggle that forces him to question whether a life of violence is truly his destiny, or whether his love for Imma offers another path.

BENIDORM IS MURDER

Launching this week on 5 is Benidorm is Murder, a new crime comedy-drama starring John Hannah as Dennis, a burned-out ex-police officer hiding behind a failing Scottish pub in Benidorm.


Rosa, played by Carolina Bécquer, is an aspiring actress, obsessed with classic British crime shows, who talks her way into his bar, his investigations, and his life. Together, they're the last people anyone would trust to solve a murder - which is exactly why they keep solving them.


Set in the glorious and chaotic Benidorm, tribute acts, bingo queens, hen parties, sunburnt tourists and bar owners hanging on by a thread, Benidorm is Murder treats its setting as a beating heart, not as a punchline.


Each episode delivers a fresh puzzle: clues, twists, a satisfying solution, and a corner of this febrile resort that turns unexpectedly deadly.


Watching with exasperated admiration are sharp Spanish inspector Maria and puppy-ish young cop Jesús, who grudgingly learn to value the pair's instincts even as they roll their eyes at their methods.


But the deeper Dennis and Rosa dig into Benidorm's underbelly, the more his past claws its way back. When an old enemy walks into The Tavern and a lock-in ends with blood on the floor, Dennis becomes the number one suspect in a murder mystery even he might not be able to solve.
