KATIE PIPER:
LOCKED UP IN LOUISIANA
Sunday 27th April at 9pm on U&W

After being attacked 15 years ago Katie Piper has been trying to understand why women commit violent acts, so she’s travelling to New Orleans, Louisiana to spend a month in Orleans Parish Prison, one of the most notorious jails in the US.
In Locked Up in Louisiana, Katie spends time with women accused of the most shocking crimes to find out what drove them to kill, asking if violence is ever justified?
In the first episode, she meets Tonica who is accused of killing her husband. Katie learns that Tonica has suffered a lifetime of abuse, as a child and then at the hands of her husband.
During a particularly violent attack, Tonica shot her husband in an act of self-defence. Tonica is charged with second degree murder, which in Louisiana carries a mandatory life sentence.
Tonica’s story of domestic abuse leads Katie to ask if she had fought back during her own attack, could she have found herself facing her own prison sentence? Katie weighs up what choice Tonica had – was it either her or him? And should anyone be locked up for life for saving themself?
Katie also spends time with Jodi who has had a lifetime of drug abuse, through which she lost touch with her children. She’s facing a charge of second-degree murder but insists she’s innocent. Jodi doesn’t have time on her side after being diagnosed with terminal cancer and must come to terms with spending her last months locked up.

 BRAND NEW DRAMA
SUSPECT: THE SHOOTING OF JEAN CHARLES DE MENEZES
Wednesday 30th April on Disney+

Jeff Pope's new Disney+ drama Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes, focuses on the events surrounding the tragic killing of innocent Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, after he is mistaken for a terrorist.
Told from multiple perspectives of those involved, it examines how memory - both accurate and distorted - can be turned into fact and shape our understanding of the truth.
Set twenty years ago, as London reels from the devastating suicide bomb attacks of 7 July 2005, the Metropolitan Police launches a large-scale counter terrorism operation to prevent further attacks. Unbeknownst to them, another terrorist cell plots an assault that could equal the devastation of 7/7.
This second set of planned attacks fails, setting off one of the UK’s largest-ever manhunts and sparking a covert surveillance operation.
As tension and uncertainty rises across the nation, a series of extraordinary events unfolds, leading to a critical misidentification. Jean Charles de Menezes, an innocent young Brazilian electrician on his way to work, is mistaken for a terrorist and shot dead at Stockwell station.
What follows is a family’s fight for justice and answers, and the long-fought struggle to bring clarity to a situation that is clouded by confusion, and silence.
Cast includes Edison Alcaide, Conleth Hill, Russell Tovey, Max Beesley, Emily Mortimer, Daniel Mays, Laura Aikman and Alex Jennings.
