WHAT TO WATCH 30 August - 5 September

It's THE biggest week of the year for new telly!

ree

My favourite thing about the autumn is how much new telly there is to look forward to and this week is packed full of shows to keep you entertained.

The Great British Bake Off returns for its sixteenth series, Educating Yorkshire is back a decade on and it's time for this year's Love Is Blind UK reunion.

If reality TV is your thing, then there are two big launches this week, Stranded on Honeymoon Island on BBC One, hosted by Davina McCall and The Inheritance on Channel 4 hosted by Robert Rinder. But which one will get you hooked?

For comedy fans, Robert Webb and David Mitchell are bringing sketch comedy back to television as they reunite on Channel 4 for Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping and Sky Max treat fans of The US Office to spin-off The Paper.

And of course no autumn schedule is complete without some brilliant TV drama and this week is no different with I Fought The Law on ITV1 starring Sheridan Smith and The Guest on BBC One starring Eve Myles.

Here are 9 TV shows you can't miss this week...

I FOUGHT THE LAW

ree

Sheridan Smith leads ITV1's new drama I Fought the Law, playing Ann Ming, which tells the heartbreaking and inspiring real-life story of a mother who, driven by unimaginable grief, finds the strength to challenge the centuries-old Double Jeopardy Law to see her daughter’s murderer finally brought to justice after a 15-year battle.

The new four-part drama follows the tragic, moving, and deeply inspiring journey of the Ming family after the murder of their beloved 22-year-old daughter, Julie.

In the wake of multiple police failings, Ann relentlessly pressures the authorities to uncover the truth and ensure the man responsible is brought to justice, despite initially seeming he will get away with murder.

Driven by love, grief, and extraordinary determination, Ann and her family campaign tirelessly in Julie’s name. In her steadfast and indomitable style, Ann takes on the entire justice system, challenging the Crown Prosecution Service, the Law Commission, prominent defence barristers in television debates, the Government, the Lord Chancellor, the Attorney General, and two Home Secretaries - as she bravely ‘fought the law'.

EDUCATING YORKSHIRE

Over 10 years ago, the nation fell in love with the students and staff of Thornhill Community Academy in Yorkshire thanks to Channel 4's Educating Yorkshire and as the series returns this week, a lot has changes over the last decade.

Inspirational English teacher, Mr Burton, who famously helped Year 11 Musharaf triumph over his stammer, is now in charge, in his first role as Head Teacher. Supported by a new team of inspirational staff, Mr Burton has a lot on his plate.

There are challenges at every turn, from a rising tide of teenage anxiety to exam and friendship pressures, to a national attendance crisis and the impact of mobile phones and social media. From the Year 7s to Year 11s, from the newly qualified teacher to the Head, Educating Yorkshire 2025 takes us back to the corridors and classrooms, revealing the unvarnished highs and lows of secondary school life.

Located in Dewsbury, at the heart of a diverse northern community, Educating Yorkshire once more, tells the characterful stories of modern Britain, with its familiar heart, humour and humanity. In this first episode of the new series, it's the first term back at Thornhill, where 12-year-old Amy must navigate secondary school life - having recently being diagnosed with Tourette's. And Assistant Head Mrs Delaney-Hudson investigates what's causing Year 8 Riley's disruptive behaviour.

THE INHERITANCE

Sunday 31st to Tuesday 2nd September at 9pm (9.30pm) on Channel 4

ree

Channel 4’s devious new game, The Inheritance, sees 13 strangers summoned to a grand stately home. They are there to compete for part of the fortune left in the will of The Deceased, a fabulously glamourous benefactor played by Elizabeth Hurley. Overseeing the stipulations of The Deceased’s will is her Executor and trusted legal counsel, Robert Rinder.

But winning the money won’t be easy. The Deceased had a wicked sense of humour and believed some people will go to great lengths to get what they want, so she designed a mischievous game to ensure only the most cunning can claim her inheritance.

The lucky 13 players must work together to complete The Deceased’s final requests, a series of devilishly difficult assignments that will test their diligence, decency and ruthlessness in a race to claim what they truly deserve.

The Deceased’s game has a delicious twist: only one player can collect the money released from each request. To claim it, they must convince the others that they alone deserve to take all the cash they earned.
