Jose Mourinho gets the Netflix documentary treatment.



This week's best telly includes a three-part Netflix documentary about Jose Mourinho, new Australian comedy drama He Had It Coming, and Misfits writer Howard Overman brings us new crime thriller Hit Point on U&Dave.


Elsewhere, Reacher returns to Prime Video for its fourth season and Miles Franklin's novel My Brilliant Career is adapted into a new Australian period drama on Netflix.

 BRAND NEW COMEDY DRAMA

HE HAD IT COMING


Saturday 8th August on BBC iPlayer



Launching this week on BBC iPlayer, and from Friday on BBC Three, is He Had It Coming, a new Australian comedy drama, which follows two women accidentally entangled in a murder mystery when their spontaneous feminist art activism is co-opted by a killer.


Lydia West plays Elise, an awkward British scholarship student who forms an unlikely alliance with fashion influencer Barbara, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo. After a series of mishaps with men, both decide to take a stand. Barbara spearheads an activist art project in the dead of night, and while drunk, the girls deface a statue of the university’s male founder in the university’s quadrangle.


When the girls wake to discover that the university's star athlete, played by Cody Simpson, has been murdered and displayed at the foot of their political statement, they must urgently erase all ties to the crime. With Detective Shepherd, played by Liv Hewson, following the breadcrumbs they have been trying to sweep up, Barbara and Elise need to find the real culprit amid rising gender tensions on campus and a growing body count.


The series also stars Duncan Fellows, Roxie Mohebbi, Tom Dawson, Alex Champion de Crespigny, Mabel Li and Miah Madden

 BRAND NEW DOCUMENTARY

MOURINHO


Tuesday 11th August on Netflix



Launching this week on Netflix is Mourinho, a new three-part documentary from the producer of Beckham, John Battesk, which has been filmed over two years and tells the story of the man who revolutionised what it meant to be a football manager, Jose Mourinho.


Mourinho charts his rise into one of football's most trophy-laden and outspoken figures, winning league titles in four different countries and lifting the Champions League twice. No career in football has generated more masterstrokes, headlines or contradictions.


Twenty years on from the night he shocked the sporting world by leading FC Porto to Champions League glory, José Mourinho has gone on to manage some of the biggest clubs on the planet, from Chelsea and Inter Milan to Real Madrid, where he has now returned.

REACHER


Wednesday 12th August on Prime Video



Reacher returns this week to Prime Video for its fourth action-packed season, based on the 13th book in Lee Child’s best-selling series, Gone Tomorrow, with Alan Ritchson returning as Jack Reacher.


When a chance encounter with a distraught stranger on a subway goes horribly wrong, Jack Reacher is drawn into a complex and deadly game that pits him against ruthless foes from the highest echelons of power.


The series also welcomed new cast members, Chris Marquette, Sydelle Noel, AGNEZ MO, Anggun, Kevin Weisman, Marc Blucas, Kevin Corrigan, and Kathleen Robertson.

MY BRILLIANT CAREER


Thursday 13th August on Netflix



Launching this week on Netflix is My Brilliant Career, a new Australian period drama, based on the novel of the same name by Miles Franklin.


It stars Philippa Northeast as Sybylla, a shockingly modern young woman with one searing ambition: to be a writer, while her family is determined to marry her off.


With an irrepressible taste for fun, Sybylla breaks every convention of 1900 Australia as she searches for a story that will allow her to write her way to independence. For her, the choice between adventure and marriage seems easy, until she falls in love. Will Sybylla marry, or will she risk it all for a creative life?


The series also stars Christopher Chung as Harry, Anna Chancellor as Mrs Bossier, Genevieve O'Reilly as Helen, Kate Mulvany as Augusta, Jake Dunn as Frank, Alexander England as Julius, Sherry-Lee Watson as Nell and Miah Madden as Betty.

HIT POINT

Launching this week on U&Dave is Hit Point, a new crime thriller from Misfits writer Howard Overman, following thirtysomething detectives Leo and Bella, played by Nick Blood and Saffron Hocking, as their latest case pulls them into a dangerous West London underworld.


On the hunt for answers, the lines between their personal and professional lives blur with every twist and betrayal. Loyalty is tested. Secrets explode. And love might be the most dangerous game of all.


When a lion, a fox, and a jaguar, or rather three men in animal masks, intercept a Range Rover carrying ten million pounds worth of cash, detectives Bella and Leo are called in to investigate the case. There’s something about this heist that just doesn’t make sense, but the romantic tension between Bella and Leo is palpable as they pursue the perpetrators. Despite the obvious chemistry, neither of them will be willing to admit that they have feelings for one another.


As the three masked men work out how to launder the money, it is only natural that its owner, the psychopathic Pascal Dubois, would come to London looking for it. As the robbers come under increasing pressure to evade both the police and Pascal, they find themselves drawn into bigger crimes than they had ever set out to commit. The real question is: do we actually want Bella and Leo to catch them? All is not as it seems.


The series also stars William Abadie, Peter Serafinowicz, Ossian Perret, Moe Bar-El, Nadia Parkes and Joshu Sher.
