Time to wave goodbye to a Weatherfield favourite!



This Boxing Day, it's time to say goodbye to a Corrie favourite, we welcome back two popular dramas for a Christmas special, Jimmy Carr hosts another Big Fat Quiz of the Year and Sheridan Smith returns to star alongside Céline Buckens in new drama The Castaways.


Here are 5 TV shows you can't miss this Boxing Day...


1. The Castaways

Boxing Day on Paramount+



Based on the bestselling novel by Lucy Clarke, The Castaways stars Sheridan Smith and Céline Buckens as sisters Lori and Erin Holme who are on the holiday of a lifetime in Fiji.

After a huge fight, Erin never boards the island-hopping flight to their tropical resort and the plane, with Lori on board, never arrives at its destination.

Months later, no wreckage has been found, and no survivors discovered. With the search abandoned, Erin remains a lone, desperate voice refusing to give up hope. Suddenly, Lori’s credit card is used in a corner shop in a remote village in Fiji.


On the CCTV, Erin recognises the plane’s pilot back from the dead. She immediately sets out from the UK to find him and discover the mystery of her sister’s fate. Jumping between the two sisters’ perspectives, The Castaways will follow Erin’s present-day investigation and Lori’s struggle for survival following the crash onto a tropical and remote desert island.


As dark secrets are revealed both in the past and present day, each shocking twist and turn slowly reveals the truth about what happened to Lori and her fellow passengers, a truth that someone on the island will kill to keep secret.

2. Coronation Street

Boxing Day at 7.30pm on ITV1



This Boxing Day, in a special emptional two-hander episode between Alison King and Chris Gascoyne as Peter bids farewell to Weatherfield.


During the episode, Carla and Peter look back over their tumultuous courtship and realise that, although they will always love each other, maybe they are better off apart. As they sit down to their last supper together will these soulmates be able to come to terms with a future without each other?

Heading out of the flat with his holdall, Peter is closely followed by Carla and is touched and surprised to find the whole family, except for Simon, who's waiting outside. Exchanging emotional farewells with each of them, Peter promises Ken that he’ll keep in touch.

3. Vera

Boxing Day at 8pm on ITV1



This Boxing Day, Brenda Blethyn returns in a thrilling feature-length Christmas episode of Vera as DCI Vera Stanhope finds herself drawn to the enchanting tidal island of Lindisfarne, where a group of lifelong friends reunites every five years to commemorate their enduring bond in a chilling investigation.


What began as a joyous tradition turns sad when one of the friends is discovered dead. The tragic death takes a disturbing turn when Vera discovers that the victim had recently been fired amidst allegations of misconduct. Determined to unearth the truth, Vera delves into the past, questioning the events that transpired during their first reunion on Holy Island.

4. Death in Paradise

Boxing Day at 9pm on BBC One



For this year's Death in Paradise Christmas special, it's Christmas in the Caribbean and Neville’s larger-than-life mum, Melanie, is in town.


She quickly assimilates herself in with the rest of the team, but she’s disheartened to see how down on romance Neville is, given everything he’s been through the past two years. Can she instil some festive cheer in her unlucky-in-love son?


Elsewhere, a wealthy business owner called Gerry is found dead at the bottom of a ravine. It could just be an accident, but Gerry’s ominous last words – ‘It’s behind you’ – suggest something more is going on and things take an even stranger turn when the team discover that the family’s house guest has mysteriously vanished, prompting her fiancé to fly out on a rescue mission.

5. Big Fat Quiz of the Year

Boxing Day at 9pm on Channel 4



Why did Keir Starmer sparkle this year? Which sporting event was labelled a cuddle battle? What fashion must have divided opinion? And why was everyone talking about the Pope's fashion sense?


Richard Ayoade, Katherine Ryan, Mel Giedroyc, Mo Gilligan, Rosie Jones and Kevin Bridges try to answer all those questions and more, while Jimmy Carr oversees proceedings to find out who knows the most about the year that's been.


Helping Jimmy ask the big questions are Charles Dance, the children of Mitchell Brook Primary School, and a host of special celebrity question setters.
