Will Gemma finally find love?

BBC Three has confirmed that hit comedy Daddy Issues, starring Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey, will return for a third and final series. Daddy Issues was BBC Three’s biggest comedy launch since the start of 2022, and series two was the channel’s top scripted title for 2025.

Set and filmed in Stockport, Greater Manchester, Daddy Issues follows Gemma coming to terms with life as a mum, with support from her hapless father Malcolm.

Luckily, she can also rely on best friend Cherry, played by Taj Atwal, boss Rita, played by Sarah Hadland, and sister Catherine, played by Sharon Rooney, all whilst trying to keep Malcolm’s best friend Derek, played by David Fynn, at arm’s length.

The third and final series will find Gemma 18 months on from where we left her in series two, and life has settled into a familiar rhythm. Her baby, Sadie, is now in nursery, Gemma's been promoted at the salon, and Malcolm has just ordered a fancy new washing machine to optimise the laundry.

Things might finally be on an even keel for the Moscrips, so maybe there's space for Gemma to finally find love?

However, it doesn't take long for chaotic 'old Gemma' to rear her head; a romantic encounter escalates into a whole heap of problems, and there's only one person she can turn to - her dad, who might finally have become the grown-up she always knew he could be.

Ahead of the new series, Aimee Lou Wood said "I'm so happy to be back with David and the brilliant Daddy Issues cast for one final time. Gemma and Malcolm are one of the funniest and sweetest comedy double acts on TV, and I've loved being a part of it."

To which David Morrissey added "I love doing Daddy Issues so much, such a great cast and crew! So I’m delighted to be coming back to have more adventures with Gemma, Malcolm and the gang!"

And writer Danielle Ward said "I'm thrilled we're getting to make a third and final series of Daddy Issues. The Moscrip’s have a special part in my heart and I'll be forever grateful to Aimee and David for bringing them to life in such a brilliantly funny way."

Made by Fudge Park, Daddy Issues is created and written by Danielle Ward, directed by George Kane, produced by Andrew Harvey and executive produced by Phil Gilbert for Fudge Park Productions, alongside Aimee Lou Wood, David Morrissey, Danielle Ward and Damon Beesley.

Speaking about Daddy Issues coming to an end, BBC's outgoing Director of Comedy, Jon Petrie said "As Daddy Issues becomes a threenager, it’s been great seeing audiences take Gemma and Malcolm to their hearts. Danielle has created a brilliantly sharp, fearless comedy and we can’t wait to see the Moscrip’s take the next, slightly wobbly steps in life with a toddler."

To which Phil Gilbert, executive producer at Fudge Park added "Danielle's series three scripts are total firecrackers - acerbic but sweet, surreal but always relatable, dark round the edges but radiating with joy from the centre. I can't wait for Aimee and David to bring their one-of-a-kind chemistry to these stories and welcome back our knockout supporting cast who help make Daddy Issues such a ridiculously fun world to spend time in."

And Rebecca Dundon, SVP, Scripted Content, Global Drama & Fremantle International, said "Few comedies earn a third season, and reaching this milestone is a testament to the exceptional team behind Daddy Issues. Danielle Ward’s outstanding writing, the phenomenal cast led by Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey, and their brilliant on-screen dynamic have made it a standout comedy with real depth and longevity."

"With the new season taking the total episode count to 18, our partners around the world have an exciting opportunity to build on the series’ success while introducing new audiences to Gemma and Malcolm’s heartfelt and hilarious story."
