As they lose their baby.
Settling into his new attentive role, Mackenzie is touched by Moira's words about him being a great Dad.
At Jacobs Fold, Charity is suddenly hit with a wave of pain and she worries something is wrong with the baby. It's not long before Mackenzie enters to find a broken Charity struggling on the floor.
As Mackenzie scoops her into his arms, Charity's crushed to think it may already be too late. Entering the hospital, Charity is gutted at Mackenzie's optimism and they both try to hide their fear from each other as a Doctor rushes them to the Early Pregnancy Unit.
Whilst an anxious Mackenzie and Charity await results, the Radiographer heads off to find a Doctor who confirms that Charity's pregnancy is ectopic, and therefore not viable.
But as a shell-shocked and heartbroken Charity and Mackenzie both hear the heartbeat of the baby they are destined to lose, they're both left alone to process what's happened.
Feeling emotionally drained, Charity psyches herself up for what she must do and is grateful for Mackenzie's support. However, it's evident that Mackenzie isn't as okay as he's making out and Charity makes it clear that she is dealing with the loss of her pregnancy by moving on with normal life.
Emmerdale continues Mondays to Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV
