But will her plan work? And what has she decided?
FOR WEEK COMMENCING 8TH JULY
When Nell continues to misconstrue Dex’s romantic hints as friendship, JJ, the reluctant Cyrano, ends up being his brother’s advisor once again in the lead up to their ‘date’.
However, the movie night is barely off the ground when the sunroom, which Dex has set up as their venue, suddenly collapses.
As dust billows, Dex rues the demise of his romantic plans. Surveying the disaster, Toadie feels guilty for selling the Varga-Murphys a substandard structure. And when Cara decides to fix the mess herself, Toadie volunteers to be her off-sider.
Meanwhile, time is running out for JJ to decide which school he wants to attend to finish his education. If it can’t be E-High he’s adamant he’d rather just stay working at Eirini Rising.
When Remi approaches Jane to see if there’s anything that can be done to undo his E-High expulsion, Jane fears there’s not, but knowing JJ has turned his life around and is doing great work at Eirini Rising, the passionate educator inside her can’t help wanting to get him back into his chosen school.
Later, Jane approaches Terese, Susan and the residents of Eirini Rising to write character references for JJ to give to the Education Department. There’s no guarantee it will work, but it’s worth a shot.
And as Toadie helps rebuild the collapsed sunroom roof of No. 30, he opens up to Cara about his family, friends and lost loves while working in the house that was once his home. When Cara is called into work, Toadie is left by himself and is suddenly overwhelmed by a sense of déjà vu. Shrugging it off, Toadie focuses on the task at hand. What is going on with him?
Meanwhile, Byron belatedly finds a letter from Vic to Jane in Trevor’s kennel, but Jane puts it aside, convinced it's full of excuses. Eventually she gives in to reading the letter and is distressed. And when she fumes to Susan and Terese about Vic having the gall to offer unsolicited advice on her relationship with Mike, Susan is surprised to hear that Vic also kissed Jane.
Defensive, Jane claims that Vic was playing mind-games and she works to sell how committed she and Mike are. Speaking from a place of friendship, Susan confesses she has shared Vic’s concerns about the state of Jane and Mike’s long separation.
When Terese gently concurs, Jane is confronted and feeling wistful, revisits the Tram, remembering the time when she and Mike reconnected and were full of hope for the future.
Left with a heavy heart, Jane takes in the now empty seat opposite her and later, when Byron finds her in an emotional state, Jane voices the painful reality that she has to break up with Mike.
