Jon Lee returns after 28 years away!

Following the sad passing of Nigel Bates this week, two familiar faces are set to make a guest appearance as loved ones gather in Walford to say goodbye.

Jon Lee will be reprising his role as Josh Saunders and Gemma Bissix as Clare Bates for the poignant scenes.

S Club’s Jon Lee first appeared in EastEnders as Josh Saunders, Julie’s son, from 1997 until 1998, while Gemma Bissix reprises her role as Clare Bates, last seen in Walford earlier this year.

On returning to EastEnders, Jon Lee said "It was quite surreal stepping back on to Albert Square after so many years as it’s so familiar to so many of us. It was lovely to see my onscreen family again."

To which Gemma Bissix added "When I returned earlier this year, we always knew Clare had to come back for Nigel’s funeral. He meant so much to her, and it felt right to be there for the conclusion of his story, as everyone came together to say their final goodbyes"

EastEnders continues Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One with first look episodes available from 6am on BBC iPlayer
