Nancy Carter set to make 'mystery' return to EastEnders as Maddy Hill reprises role

After almost five years away, Nancy is on her way back to Albert Square, from New Zealand.

Reprising the role she played for over two years since January 2014, Maddy Hill left EastEnders in 2016 after her character Nancy Carter, jetted off to New Zealand to start married life with her husband Tamwar.

Her arrival is sure to delight parents Mick and Linda, who initially are shocked that she'd back! But what brings her back to East London from the other side of the world?

Nancy arrived in Walford with the Carter’s in 2014 and quickly became embroiled with dramas across the Square as her family took over The Queen Vic. Eventually her unlikely romance with Tamwar Masood lead to them heading off on an adventure of a lifetime, travelling around the world.

Speaking about returning to EastEnders, Maddy Hill said "I’m SO excited to be coming back and reconnecting with all the hilarious, warm, talented cast and crew and meeting some lovely new faces. I absolutely loved playing Nancy and have often wondered what she’s up to, so feel very grateful to be able to rediscover her 5 years on!"

The soap's Executive Producer, Jon Sen added "We’re delighted to have Maddy back and I can’t wait for audiences to see what’s in store for Nancy. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding her return and she’s coming back to a family that have been through a very difficult year – things are definitely not as Nancy left them. Maddy is a fantastic actor and we feel very lucky to have her back in Walford."

Maddy will begin filming this month with her scenes airing in spring.

EastEnders continues Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One
