Robert's suspicion of John grows after Nate's 'killer' is found in Emmerdale

What will the police do with his new information?

 19-25 JULY

Last week, John carried out a deceit when he made it look like a patient of the surgery, Owen, had confessed to Nate’s death.

When Liam makes a return visit to Owen’s home, he is concerned by the lack of response, so he calls the police, who arrive and soon confirm Owen’s death. DS Walsh shows Liam a written confession on Owen’s laptop, and it looks like John’s dastardly plan is working perfectly.

DS Walsh arrives to tell Cain and Tracy they have found a ‘suicide note’ confessing to Nate's death, and they both struggle to digest this information.

Back at the surgery, John acts suitably shocked when Liam relays the news of Owen’s confession and death.

Later, Liam and John reveal the news that this man had confessed to Nate’s murder and Robert is shaken by the coincidence and suspicions about John are piqued.

Meanwhile, John arrives hoping to see an improvement in Cain after the news about Owen, but kicks himself when he sees that Cain is still in turmoil. Cain bombards Liam with questions about Owen, but when Liam refuses to breach patient confidentiality, Cain loses his rag with his friend.

Liam recounts to John his interaction with Cain and describes the harrowing effect of losing a child. John is overwhelmed with guilt. Owen’s ‘confession’ has robbed Cain of getting justice.

A guilt-ridden John reaches out to the helpline and strikes up a conversation with his usual volunteer, and is torn when the volunteer suggests they call rather than message.

When DC Cole arrives at the surgery wanting more information about Owen’s medical history, Robert sees him leave and tries to figure out what’s going on. And Claudette lets slip that John had been to Owen’s house shortly before he died, and Robert is buoyed by this new information.

Before long, Robert arranges to meet Owen’s brother, Steve, and is shocked to hear that Owen had a solid alibi for the date Nate was murdered.

Soon, Robert arrives at the police station, claiming to have new information about Nate’s murder.

Emmerdale continues Mondays to Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV1 with first look episodes available from 7am on ITVX
