CLIVE MYRIE'S
AFRICAN ADVENTURE

Monday 26th to Friday 30th January

6.30pm | BBC Two

Clive Myrie is back with another adventure, and this time he kicks things off in South Africa, where 20 years ago, he worked as a BBC correspondent.

Sometimes called the rainbow nation for its colourful mix of cultures and languages, South Africa covers nearly half a million square miles and is home to over 60 million people. It’s a land of sophisticated cities, spectacular wildlife, brilliant beaches and great complexity.

When Clive worked here, he was based in the city of Johannesburg. For this visit, Clive is focusing on Soweto, South Africa’s biggest and most famous township, which lies just outside the city.

Clive gets dizzy as he jumps into the South African led craze for car spinning at the Soweto Drift Academy. His old BBC mate Milton Nkosi introduces him to Ndileka Mandela, the activist granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, the man who inspired Clive to become a journalist, over a traditional spicy South Africa lunch of chakalaka.

Clive also picks up some Amapiano moves as he parties Soweto style at a car wash and helps create one of Soweto’s famous murals.

 RETURNING DRAMA PART 1

BRIDGERTON

Thursday 29th January

Netflix

Arriving in two parts, the fourth season of Bridgerton sees Bohemian second son Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, refuse to settle down, despite pleas to the contrary from matriarch Lady Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell.

Until, at Violet's masquerade ball, Benedict is awestruck by a masked, mysterious Lady in Silver. With the reluctant help of his sister Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie, Benedict sets out in society to uncover the young lady's identity. But in fact, his heart's desire is not in society at all; she is a resourceful maid called Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha, working for the formidable Lady of the house, Araminta Gun, played by Katie Leung.

When fate brings Benedict and Sophie back together, Benedict wrestles between the reality of his affection for this intriguing maid and the fantasy of the Lady in Silver, unaware that they are the same person. Will Benedict's inability to see these women as one and the same derail the undeniable spark between him and Sophie? And can love truly conquer anything - even a cross-class connection forbidden by society?

Inspiring Benedict's journey are the marriages of his siblings - including Francesca to John Stirling, and Colin to Penelope, who faces new challenges as a now public gossip columnist.

THE APPRENTICE

Wednesday 28th January

Apple TV

As The Apprentice returns for its landmark 20th series, 20 brand new candidates will be vying for Lord Sugar's £250,000 investment in their business plan, as well his priceless mentorship.

To kick things off in style, for the first time, Lord Sugar’s boardroom will move to Hong Kong after the candidates complete a task in one of the world’s most vibrant trading hubs.

Back alongside his formidable advisors, Baroness Karren Brady CBE and Tim Campbell MBE, Lord Sugar will whittle down the 20 candidates across 12 episodes in a bid to choose the candidate that will receive his life-changing investment. The stakes are high from the outset, and the first task kicks off with a fan-favourite buying challenge.

What follows is a demanding run of tasks that takes the candidates across London and beyond, testing their instincts for branding, selling and negotiation. Viewers can expect to see the candidates create a children’s book, sell live on television and host a corporate away day on the Red Sea in El Gouna, Egypt, before tackling a second helping of the discount buying task on the Isle of Wight.

It all leads to interview week, where the final five face Lord Sugar’s closest associates, their business plans stripped back and examined in detail.

 BRAND NEW DRAMA

UNDER SALT MARSH

Friday 30th January

Time | Sky Atlantic

Sky's new drama from Claire Oakley, Under Salt Marsh, is set in the fictional Welsh town of Morfa Halen, a tight-knit community precariously nestled between towering mountains and a fast-encroaching sea that threatens its very existence.

As a once-in-a-generation storm begins to gather far out at sea, former detective turned teacher Jackie Ellis, played by Kelly Reilly, discovers the body of her 8-year-old pupil, Cefin, seemingly drowned. The discovery sends shockwaves through the community, reviving the ghost of an unsolved cold case that rocked the town three years prior – the disappearance of Jackie’s niece, Nessa, which cost her career.

Cefin’s death summons Jackie's former partner, Detective Eric Bull, played by Rafe Spall, back to Morfa Halen to lead the investigation into a community he failed once before. Convinced the cases are linked, Jackie and Bull must reconcile and race to uncover long-buried secrets inside Morfa, before the storm breaks and all the evidence is gone for good.

Promising to be an intimate and cinematic story, Under Salt Marsh will take audiences into the heart of a community bound by nature and fractured by an unthinkable crime.
