Autumn telly has arrived!



This week's best telly includes the highly anticipated returns of BIG dramas: Trigger Point on ITV1, Vigil on BBC One, The Gentlemen on Netflix, and The Game on 5.


Plus Taskmaster is back on Channel 4 for its 22nd series, The Grand Tour returns to Prime Video with a new hosting line-up, and on Friday night, Joe Lycett invites us into his pub for a new live entertainment show on Channel 4.

RETURNING DRAMA

VIGIL


Sunday 30th and Monday 31st August at 9pm on BBC One

Vigil returns this week to BBC One for its third series, as Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie return as DCI Amy Silva and DI Kirsten Longacre for a new case that takes them to a remote Arctic research station, where a member of a covert British special forces mission has been shot dead.


Amy and Kirsten will need to catch the killer and defuse a potential international confrontation, driven by a land grab for energy and resources amid a changing polar climate, with both their careers and relationship on the line.


The series also sees the return of Gary Lewis as DS Robertson and Dominic Mafham as Sir Ian Downing. And they'll be joined by new cast members Jeppe Beck Laursen, Steven Miller, Naomi Yang, Benjamin Wainwright, Tornike Gogrichiani and Danusia Samal.


Further new cast include Artur Zai Barrera, Jordan Duvigneau, Kaisa Hammarlund, Adam Fidusiewicz, Eric Godon, Conor Berry, Amy Manson, Jason Tobin, Steven Cree, Killian Coyle, Derek Riddell, Alma Prelec, Dawn Sievewright and Shereen Cutkelvin.

TRIGGER POINT

Trigger Point returns this week to ITV1 for its fourth series, as Vicky McClure returns to play the fearless but troubled, Lana Washington, who will confront her greatest challenge yet.


Series four opens with Lana on the front line with Counter Terrorism Command as London is rocked by a wave of devastating bombings. The attackers are the most skilled and dangerous adversaries Lana has ever faced, and together with her team, they do all they can to track them down and prevent further casualties.


But as the hunt for the bombers intensifies, unsettling cracks begin to appear in the investigation. Even those Lana works closely with are hiding dark secrets. Time is running out. And the fate of the capital hangs in the balance.


Returning cast members include Eric Shango as Danny, Natalie Simpson as DS Helen Morgan, Maanuv Thiara as DCI Amar Batra, Nabil Elouahabi as Hass, and they'll be joined by Julie Graham as Commander Nia Quentin.

THE GAME

The Game returns this week to 5 for its second series, as Jason Watkins returns as former detective Huw, who a year after surviving a brutal attack, has retreated to a remote coastal home with his wife Alice, played by Sunetra Sarker, determined to leave the past behind.


Their daughter Margot, played by Indy Lewis, is preparing to move in with her boyfriend Sam, a relationship Huw struggles to embrace. But their fragile peace is disrupted when letters begin arriving from imprisoned serial killer Patrick, played by Robson Green, proving that he still has the power to intrude on their lives.


Meanwhile, Detective Jenny Atkins, played by Amber James, is approached by Natalie Gower, played by Amanda Bright, whose husband Jonathan disappeared years earlier after becoming convinced he was being watched. Natalie is convinced that Jonathan was Patrick’s first victim, and Jenny begins to suspect there may be a connection worth exploring.


As Huw struggles to ignore Patrick’s attempts to draw him back into a dangerous psychological game, tensions begin to surface within his family. His daughter Margot experiences a series of disturbing incidents that leave her feeling increasingly vulnerable, while Alice becomes convinced that Patrick’s influence remains a threat to them all.


With old fears resurfacing and unanswered questions surrounding Jonathan’s disappearance, Huw finds himself pulled back toward the man he hoped never to face again. As Patrick’s shadow lengthens over every aspect of their lives, it becomes clear that imprisonment has done little to diminish his ability to manipulate those around him.

Thursday 3rd September on Netflix



Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen returns this week to Netflix for its second series, and it's been one year since Eddie and Susie joined forces to work together in Bobby’s criminal empire overseas.


As they drive to expand their enterprise, the decisions Bobby is making seem to be increasingly unsound. Now Eddie and Susie must decide whether to take action or risk losing it all, but unfettered ambition never ends well.


Returning cast members include Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson and Vinnie Jones.


New cast for series two includes Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellitto, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, British professional boxer Chris Eubank Jr and TV host, broadcaster and entrepreneur Maya Jama.

TASKMASTER


Thursday 3rd September at 9pm on Channel 4

Taskmaster returns this week to Channel 4 for its 22nd series, as Chloe Petts, Isy Suttie, Matt Lucas, Nina Conti and Richard Ayoade hope to make an immediate impression on the Taskmaster as they re-arrange furniture and perform duets... with themselves.


Taskmaster Greg Davies returns with his adoring assistant Alex Horne as the courageous quintet are tasked with crawling through tunnels, looking for faces in toast and using their armpits in the name of art.


In this first episode, Matt reveals where his true passion lies, Isy makes use of some coffee pods, Nina imagines a river, Richard reveals himself to be some sort of action hero, and Chloe drags Alex through a magical tube.

THE GRAND TOUR


Friday 4th September on Prime Video



The Grand Tour returns this week to Prime Video for its seventh series, and there's a brand new line-up of hosts driving the show into a new era.


Taking over from Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, are celebrated trainspotter and secret petrolhead Francis Bourgeois, an acclaimed YouTube creators of Throttle House, James Engelsman and Thomas Holland.


Together, the trio will tackle motoring’s most pressing, and delightfully absurd, questions across some of the world’s most challenging terrains. From crossing the Angolan desert in track cars to exploring Malaysia’s vibrant car culture, before heading to California to test cutting-edge performance cars.

 BRAND NEW ENTERTAINMENT

LIVE FROM THE LYCETT ARMS


Friday 4th September at 10pm on Channel 4

Launching this week on Channel 4 is Live from the Lycett Arms, which as the title would suggest, is Joe Lycett's new show for Friday nights, coming live from his brand-new technicolour, paisley-carpeted pub that's only open for one hour a week.


It's a place where everyone can escape the world and also put it to rights and each week, pub landlord Joe will oversee the anarchy as he's joined by a different celebrity manager who will attempt to tackle the chaos on their trial shift, as well as a comedian guest and a host of star-studded pubgoers and friendly regulars.


Live, anarchic and with the wheels threatening to come off at any moment, it's a love letter to the great British pub and anything can happen during the very limited opening hours of The Lycett Arms.
