Inviting Aaron to their engagement, Leo and Krista nudge him to perhaps bring Rhett as his plus one.
As Aaron, Isla, and Rhett meet before the party, Rhett becomes unexpectedly choked up over seeing Aaron and Isla interact. Aaron doesn’t probe, but when it happens again at the party, and Rhett admits the reason for his emotions. He has a daughter, too, though he hasn’t seen her for a long time.
Aaron is a little thrown by the revelation and after the party Rhett explains how he had a daughter years ago but due to her mother’s wishes he hasn’t been able to see her since.
Seeing Aaron with Isla has really brought home how much he’s missing out on, though he knows his daughter is loved and safe with her mother, and that’s the most important thing. Sympathetic, Aaron surprises himself by kissing Rhett.
