The next morning, Karl is released from the hospital and decides to visit Darcy after all, but instead of taking Darcy to task, he asks him a simple question. Why did Darcy target Karl?

Being honest, Darcy offers his belief that Karl is too old to be practising medicine. Rattled, it's clear that Karl's confidence has been shaken as he tells Susan he has no intention of rushing back to work.

After being forced into more physical therapy so soon after recovering from his leg injury, Karl is demoralised, and Susan finds it hard to stay strong for him. When Susan confides in Colton, he suggests that getting Karl back into his old habits might help.

Running with the advice, Susan takes Karl for a trip to Eirini, and as he takes in his usual environment. Karl’s mood improves. But with the visit giving him some fresh inspiration, Susan is gobsmacked when Karl announces he’s decided to resign from Eirini Rising.
