The award-winning actress, singer and two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner will star alongside Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson in the new series of Doctor Who.
Doctor Who returns in November 2023 with three special episodes to coincide with the 60th anniversary with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor.
The next Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, will then take control of the TARDIS, with his first episode airing over the festive period in 2023, starring alongside Millie Gibson in the role of Ruby Sunday, the Doctor’s new companion.
And today it was announced that Jinkx Monsoon, who has cultivated an international fanbase after winning two seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race will join the next series in a major role.
Jinkx joins Doctor Who after a sellout run on Broadway where they made their highly-anticipated debut as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton in Chicago, becoming the first drag queen to play the role of Mama Morton and broke box office records in their extended 8-week run.
Speaking about Jinkx joining Doctor Who, Showrunner Russell T Davies said "In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!"
To which Jinkx Monsoon added "I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who! Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer— I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage."
