Paramount+'s new thriller is set in a society where all men live under 'The Women's Safety Act', which means they are bound by a strict curfew.
Paramount+ has today announced that their newest UK drama, Curfew, will launch on Thursday 10th October and released a number of first look images alongside the series trailer.
The six-part thriller is an adaptation of Jayne Cowie’s Novel After Dark, and the trailer introduces audiences to Curfew's alternative reality, where all men live under ‘The Women’s Safety Act’, bound by a strict curfew from 7PM to 7AM every night with their movements tracked by an ankle tag 24 hours a day.
Curfew kicks off with the discovery of a woman’s body brutally murdered during curfew hours, and left on the steps of the Women’s Safety Centre. Veteran Police Officer Pamela Green, played by Sarah Parish, believes that a man is responsible and leads the charge in the hunt for the killer.
However, in a world where men are bound by the curfew system, Pamela’s theory is rejected: that the introduction of The Women’s Safety Act almost three years ago is widely considered effective at protecting women – who have been able to go out at night without looking over their shoulders – and nobody wants to hear different.
Determined to prove a man committed this murder, Pamela’s investigation threatens to bring The Women’s Safety Act crashing down… people in high places are determined to make the curfew a success and will do all it takes to prevent Pamela from discovering the truth.
Curfew stars, alongside Sarah Parish, Bobby Brazier, Larry Lamb, Anita Dobson, Lucy Benjamin, Mitchell Robertson, Mandip Gill, Alexandra Burke, Imogen Sandhu and Selorm Adonu.
It'll also star James Craven, Tommy McDonnell, Adam Korson, Amy Louise Pemberton and newcomer Raphael D’Alterio.
The series is produced by Vertigo Films in association with Evolutionary Films, directed by Joasia Goldyn, produced by John Adams and co-produced by Diane Shorthouse with executive producers Allan Niblo, Jane Moore and Nathalie Peter-Contesse
Lead writer Lydia Yeoman will be joined in the writing team by Jess Green who has written episode three and Sumerah Srivastav has written episode five.
