Jay, Phil and Billy struggle to say goodbye to Lola as her final days arrive in EastEnders

Will Ben arrive back in time to say goodbye?

As the week dawns, it's clear that these are the final few days of Lola's life. When she suffers another seizure, Jay calls in nurse Suzanne who tells him that they are near the end, leaving him devastated.

Meanwhile, Billy panics about getting Lexi, Will and Janet out of the house to protect them from what’s happening. And his stress levels skyrocket as the pressure of his emotions and the horrifying reality of Lola's situation intensify.

After a few drinks, Billy has a run-in with Nish, who deliberately winds him up and a raging Billy smashes the window of the Minute Mart until Martin, Honey, and Phil physically restrain him.

Demanding justice, Nish isn't happy when Phil throws money at him and when Jack arrives to diffuse the situation, Billy accidentally hits him in the face as Nish continues to stir, which results in his arrest.

With Honey desperate to get Billy released, Phil accompanies her to the police station, where they demand Billy's release.

When Jack explains it'll only happen if Nish withdraws his witness statement and doesn't press charges, Honey and Phil go on a mission to talk Nish around.

Back at No.18, Jay tends to his wife who is unresponsive. When Suzanne arrives, she explains that there will now be long periods of unconsciousness, so this is the time for Lola's loved ones to say their goodbyes.

Meanwhile, Kim tries to mask her anxiety symptoms as she and Denise visit Lola who is desperately weak but glad to see them, and the women put on a good show of cheer to lift her spirits.

Lola is thrilled as her friends and neighbours let her know they are thinking of her by staging a unique greeting for Lola in the Square.

Elsewhere, Kathy and Callum are exasperated as the news about Ben doing a flit to America comes out, leaving Billy and Jay furious.

When Ben doesn't contact anyone for days, Kathy demands that Callum uses his detective skills to track him down. And they all worry about the consequences if Lola dies while Ben is on the other side of the world.

Phil is frustrated that nobody can get through to Ben and decides to go Stateside to bring him back. But Kathy tells him not to be stupid as she and Callum search the flat looking for clues of his whereabouts.

Calling Callum, Ben excitedly tells him he can get Lola on a trial but Callum doesn't reveal Lola is close to death, as Ben is getting on a plane then and there. But Callum worries that Ben will never forgive himself if he's not there when Lola dies.

As Jay battles with saying goodbye to Lola, Phil also struggles with the situation whilst Kathy and Callum go into Lola's bedroom to say goodbye, promising to look after Lexi for her.

Sensing the mood, Linda invites Callum, Jack, Whitney, Rocky, Denise and some of the others to have a lock-in and together they reflect on life, loss, and the tragedy of Lola's terminal illness.

EastEnders continues Mondays to Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One
