Karl and Susan reconcile as he bids farewell to Eirini Rising in Neighbours

But how will she feel about his next career move?

Karl enlists Moira to help him convince Remi to take over from him at Eirini Rising. Feeling as though the situation is getting out of hand, Remi tells Susan that their deal is off, who begs Remi to maintain the ruse until Karl’s finished his pie promotion at The Tram. Once that’s done, Susan is adamant he’ll want to return to his role at Eirini Rising.

Unfortunately for Susan, Karl overhears this conversation and what’s more, their confrontation occurs smack in the middle of the event. While Karl puts on a brave face to front the media, Susan’s heart sinks, aware she has a lot of explaining to do.

Hurt by Susan and Remi’s deception, a vulnerable Karl flees The Tram, just as Vera and Gino order simultaneously, leading to confusion about which of them is The Tram’s 82,000th customer. As a squabble breaks out between the pair over who the rightful winner of Karl’s promotion, the press capture the mayhem and Susan is forced to take control, declaring them joint winners.

Despite Susan and Remi sincerely apologising to Karl, he remains adamant about his decision to quit Eirini Rising; going as far as to send Terese his resignation letter, much to Susan’s dismay. And despite Susan’s plea that she was only trying to protect Karl and do what was best for him, he accuses her of not properly listening to his needs.

Later, Susan confesses to Remi and Wendy that she feels it’s her fault Karl was hurt and is now giving up the thing he loves most. Reflecting on what a wonderful experience working with her husband at Eirini has been, Susan deeply mourns the loss of this element of their life together.

With Karl’s still frustrated with Susan over her unsupportive response to his plans to resign from Eirini, when Terese comes back from her holiday, she admits she’s disappointed to lose Karl but understands his decision.

Looking ahead, Karl hopes to secure a new position with the council as Seniors Advisor, but Susan remains unsettled by the pace of all this change. Colton, too, readies to leave Eirini, heading back to Queensland after losing the sweepstakes for Aaron’s heart. And the boys share a bittersweet goodbye and Colton leaves wishing they could have been more.

After Karl is bombarded with loving farewells from the Eirini Rising residents, Susan still hopes he might change his mind about leaving, but Karl is adamant about interviewing for the council role.

Seeing how passionate Karl feels about the role leads Susan to extend an olive branch, leading to a reconciliation between the Kennedys.
