Back to Life follows Daisy Haggard's character Miri Matteson, a good woman who did a terrible thing, returning to life in her quiet hometown after 18 years in prison.

Meera Syal and Adrian Edmondson join the second series, starring alongside returning cast members; Adeel Akhtar as Billy, Geraldine James as Miri's mum Caroline, Christine Bottomley as Mandy, Jo Martin as Miri’s parole officer Janice, Richard Durden as Oscar, Jamie Michie as Dom and Juliet Cowan as Tina.

Speaking about the new series, Daisy Haggard said "Laura and I are thrilled to finally start shooting the second series of Back to Life. We were blown away by the reception to the first series, so it was both nerve wracking and exciting to write season 2! We can’t wait for you all to see the next chapter…"

To which the BBC's Director of Comedy Commissioning, Shane Allen, added "The clever and twisted storytelling delves even deeper in this propulsive mystery peppered with playful black humour. This is a golden age for UK comedy talent to reach audiences across the world with the BBC kick-starting the journey."

Back to Life is created and executive produced by Daisy Haggard and co-written with Laura Solon. The series will be produced by Two Brothers Pictures and executive produced by Harry and Jack Williams, Sarah Hammond and Chris Sweeney. Laura Solon will also executive produce.

Series two is directed by Ella Jones and produced by Catherine Gosling Fuller with Kate Daughton handing over BBC Commissioning Editor duties to Tanya Qureshi for series two.
