Patience returning to Channel 4 for a second series

And Ella May Purvis will be joined by Jessica Hynes.

Channel 4 has today announced that filming has commenced on a second series of their hit drama Patience.

The first series aired earlier this year and became Channel 4’s biggest drama of 2025 so far, averaging 4.2m viewers.

Joining the cast for series two will be Jessica Hynes as DI Frankie Monroe who promises to bring a different dynamic to the station and a new boss for Patience and the team.

Returning for an extended duration of eight episodes, Patience, once again played by Ella Maisy Purvis, will continue her work in the police criminal records department of City of York Police after establishing herself as an invaluable member of the team, bringing her unique insight into a series of perplexing cases.

However, when a new boss, Detective Frankie Monroe brings a very different management style, it proves tricky for them both to navigate. Love is also in the air in this series as Patience begins a relationship with a work colleague Elliot and the police department gets a makeover with the arrival of a new PR consultant all whilst tackling intriguing crimes in extraordinary settings such as York Minster.

Also in series two, we see the return of regular cast members Nathan Welsh as DS Jake Hunter, Mark Benton as Calvin Baxter, Adrian Rawlins as Douglas Gilmore, Ali Ariaie as DC Will Akbari, Connor Curren as Billy Thompson, Liza Sadovy as Dr. Loretta Parsons and Tom Lewis as Elliot Scott.

On returning for a second series, Ella Maisy Purvis said “The response and popularity of Series 1 was staggering, so I am beyond thrilled to dive back into the world of Patience for a Series 2, especially because we have some brilliant new cases to crack. Buckle up!"

To which Jessica Hynes added “I am thrilled to be joining the cast of Patience as DI Frankie Monroe – I hugely enjoyed the first series as a viewer and looking forward to joining the team for the second series to be in the middle of the action.”

Produced by Eagle Eye Drama which is part of ITV Studios, Patience will once again be directed by Maarten Moerkerke alongside Raf Reyntjens with Executive Producers Jo McGrath, Alison Kee and Walter Iuzzolino.

Six of the episodes from series two are written by Amy Schindler and Beth Chalmers with additional episodes written by Rachel Smith and Jacqui Honess-Martin.

On Patience returning, Jo McGrath, Chief Creative Officer at Eagle Eye Drama said “We’re so proud of Patience’s success in the UK and the extended recommission is a real testament to the quality of our cast and talented crew, guided by our outstanding director Maarten Moerkerke. Series 2 promises to be even more action packed, culminating with a nail-biting hostage storyline and a shocking family revelation for Patience."

Patience, which is adapted from the original series Astrid & Raphaëlle produced by JLA Productions for France TV, will be distributed worldwide by Beta Film. And the series is being produced in association with Happy Duck Films and is supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter.
