Patience returning to Channel 4 for an extended third series

And this time, Patience will be taking a new step in her romantic life!

Following the recent success of the second series of Patience, Channel 4 has announced that the hit detective drama will return for an extended 10-episode series, with filming set to begin in Belgium and York from March.

Ella Maisy Purvis returns as autistic criminal records archivist Patience, who in series three will continue her work with City of York Police, bringing her unique insight to a series of perplexing cases.

After initial clashes with motorbike-riding DI Frankie Monroe, played by Jessica Hynes, in series two, Patience and Frankie are now close colleagues and even friends.

As well as taking a new step in her romantic life in series three, family bonds bring a new horizon for Patience, as she navigates building a relationship with her estranged half-sister Joy while also investigating her father’s death. Was the car crash that killed him really an accident or is there more to the case than meets the eye?

Returning alongside Purvis and Hynes will be Nathan Welsh, Mark Benton, Adrian Rawlins, Tom Lewis, Ali Ariaie and Liza Sadovy.

Speaking ahead of Patience's return, Channel 4's Head of Acquisitions, Polly Scates, said "We’re delighted to welcome Patience back to Channel 4 for its third series. The show has really captured the hearts of our viewers, and there’s genuine excitement to see where Patience’s investigations take us next in the City of York."

To which Jo McGrath, Chief Creative Officer at Eagle Eye Drama, added "Audiences across the world have taken Patience to their hearts and it’s wonderful to see the series performing so strongly in the UK, becoming the 8th most streamed show across all platforms midway through its run. This is testament to the quality of our outstanding cast, led by Ella Maisy Purvis and production team, led by director Maarten Moerkerke. Happily, they will all be returning to deliver another gripping extended series of ten episodes."

Series two's launch episode received an average audience of 4.2m (0-28 day, all screens), and is the most-watched so far in 2026, across linear and streaming.

Produced by Eagle Eye Drama in association with Happy Duck Films, the third series of Patience will be written by Matt Baker, Amy Shindler and Beth Chalmers, directed by Maarten Moerkerke and Jan Matthys, produced by Jen Burnetand and executive produced by Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino.
