But could the answer to their prayers lie in Germany?
When the doctor announces that they’re going to reduce Oliver’s sedation and try and remove his breathing tube, Leanne is left delighted but not for long as the doctor later has to break the news to Leanne and Steve that they’ve had to up Oliver’s sedation again. With his seizures beyond their control, they're told life support is the only thing keeping him alive.
Back in Weatherfield, Toyah and Imran get a visit from Karen from social services who questions Toyah at length about the situation with Susie and her intention to pass her off as her own.
Thankfully, the visit goes their way as Karen lets them both know that she'll be recommending them to the fostering panel. Before they have time to celebrate, Nick calls from the hospital with Oliver’s news.
Vowing to never give up on her son, Leanne tells Nick, Steve and Tracy that she’ll do whatever it takes and news that a specialist from another hospital is coming to assess Oliver and give a second opinion, gives them a new glimmer of hope.
But sadly the consultant breaks the news to Steve and Leanne that unfortunately, having obtained a second opinion, it has only confirmed that Oliver will never be able to breathe unaided and the time has come to talk about switching off his life support.
With Nick having done some research on the internet, he tells Leanne about a hospital in Germany where they can treat people with Oliver’s condition and with Leanne's shock turning to anger, she accuses the consultant of giving up on Oliver and announces that she’s found a hospital in Germany that will be able to treat him.
As they video call the doctor in Germany, Steve is concerned by Leanne's downplaying of the situation, but Leanne won't listen and is delighted when the doctor says he will treat Oliver.
With the treatment costing £500,000, Steve tells Tracy and Emma about the cost and Emma heads straight off to come up with some fundraising ideas. After Tracy insists that Steve speaks to Leanne about downplaying Oliver's symptons, Leanne reluctantly calls the doctor back to give a truthful account of Oliver’s condition.
Corrie continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV
