This week's best telly includes the highly anticipated return of some of television's biggest shows, including Slow Horses, Big Brother, Saturday Night Live UK, All Creatures Great and Small and MobLand.


Plus, Graham Norton's novel Forever Home is adapted into a new drama for 5, and reality star Gemma Collins allows the cameras to follow her through a year in which everything changes.

 RETURNING ENTERTAINMENT

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE UK


Saturday 12th September at 9pm on Sky One

Saturday Night Live UK returns this week to Sky One for its second series, with actor and global icon Jeff Goldblum taking to the stage as the first host of the new series, and will be joined by acclaimed Irish singer‑songwriter CMAT.


Broadcast live from London each week, the series will once again welcome a different celebrity host and musical guest for every episode, alongside topical sketches, live music performances and a British take on the iconic Weekend Update segment, hosted by Ania Magliano and Paddy Young.


All 11 of SNL UK’s inaugural cast will return for series two, including Hammed Animashaun, Ayoade Bamgboye, Larry Dean, Celeste Dring, George Fouracres, Ania Magliano, Annabel Marlow, Al Nash, Jack Shep, Emma Sidi and Paddy Young, with Freddie Meredith recently announced to be joining the show, fresh from his Best Newcomer-nominated Edinburgh Fringe run.


The first six episodes of series two will air weekly, with a break on Saturday 3rd October, with the remaining six episodes set to air in early 2027. Next week's host is Jamie Demetriou, with Amelia Dimoldenberg hosting the following week.

BIG BROTHER

Big Brother returns this week to ITV2 for its 23rd series, its fourth on ITV, with AJ Odudu and Will Best returning as hosts, and Kate Lawler and GK Barry joining the show to host brand new companion show/podcast, The Group Chat.


On Sunday night, a new group of strangers will move into the iconic Big Brother house, reimagined this year as a house of surprises, promising to keep Housemates on their toes with unexpected twists and game-changing moments around every corner.


Across the extended eight-week run, viewers can expect ambitious tasks, high-stakes nominations and dramatic live evictions as the Housemates face challenges at every turn in their bid to outlast their rivals. Who will be crowned this year’s winner and take home a life-changing cash prize? Who wins? You decide.

 BRAND NEW DRAMA

FOREVER HOME


Monday 14th to Wednesday 16th September at 9pm on 5

Launching this week on 5 is Forever Home, a new six-part adaptation of Graham Norton's novel of the same name, which follows the story of a second wife dealing with the memories of the woman who went before her.


When her older partner Robert Barrie, played by Douglas Henshall, sees his dementia worsen, Carol Crottie, played by Amy Nuttall, starts to wonder if the reason he won’t leave his home has something to do with the whereabouts of his first wife, who ran off with Robert’s brother 20 years ago, leaving behind their two young children, Kaden and Sally, played by Lewis Cope and Jenny Walser.


When Robert’s anxiety about the house’s hidden basement rises, Carol’s curiosity is piqued as she and her mother, Moira Crottie, played by Denise Welch, investigate the whereabouts of Robert’s first wife, Joan. But the secrets Robert has kept will take a long time to untangle.


Episode one begins with a flashback to the Barrie family’s fractured past: young Sally and Kaden return home to find their mother gone, leaving their father Robert devastated and forbidding any mention of her name. The transformation of the house marks the passage of time, especially the cellar door, which becomes increasingly concealed.


It also stars Kevin Whately, Samantha Bond, Shane Zaza and James Baxter.

GEMMA COLLINS: EVERYTHING. ALL AT ONCE.

Launching this week on Sky One is Gemma Collins: Everything. All At Once. a new eight-part documentary series following Gemma through a year in which everything changes, and promises to show the Gemma behind “The GC".


Gemma Collins has spent years living her life in the public eye, but behind the headlines is a woman trying to navigate life and the very real personal challenges that come with it: her relationships, her family, and her hopes for the future.


When filming begins, Gemma and her partner Rami are preparing for their wedding and hoping to start a family. But as the year unfolds, their plans are tested by circumstances they could never have anticipated.


Rami faces his own challenges which put new pressures on their relationship, and their hopes of starting a family lead them into the deeply personal and emotional world of fertility. As Gemma embarks on her fertility journey, questions and worries begin to set in. Having spent so much of her life putting her career first, has she left it too late to have the family she has always wanted?


Alongside this, Gemma is caring for the people closest to her and trying to support those around her, all while navigating life in the public eye and balancing a busy career that she loves.


Later in the year, she’s faced with the devastating loss of her mum, adding another profound and deeply personal chapter to a year that has already tested her in ways she never expected.

SLOW HORSES


Wednesday 16th September on Apple TV



Slow Horses returns this week to Apple TV for its sixth series. The darkly humorous espionage drama follows a dysfunctional team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 known unaffectionately as Slough House.


Gary Oldman returns as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant but cantankerous leader of the spies who end up in Slough House due to their career-ending mistakes and who frequently find themselves blundering around the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world.


In the new series, the Slow Horses find themselves on the run as Diana Taverner embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge.


The ensemble cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Rosalind Eleazar, Joanna Scanlan, Samuel West, Ruth Bradley, Tom Brooke, Jonathan Pryce and Hugo Weaving, alongside new addition, Lenny Rush.

ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL

All Creatures Great and Small returns this week to 5 for its seventh series, and with the war finally over, Skeldale House is full once again and livelier than ever as the show's beloved characters reunite under one roof and look ahead to a hopeful new chapter.


James is excited about new developments in veterinary medicine, but a new vet in the area threatens the status quo.


In the first episode, James impresses as a mature vet, and Helen considers plans to invest in the future of the farm. Can she get Richard on board? When a new vet arrives in Darrowby, Siegfried is suspicious of his tactics, Tristan’s impressed with his style, and James begins to question himself.


James, Helen and the kids visit the local sweet shop where confectioner Geoff Hatfield is concerned about his cat Alfred. James becomes increasingly stumped as to what’s wrong.


Dorothy seems to be having a positive effect on Siegfried, and Mrs Hall enjoys having her friend around. Jimmy’s excited to start school but has to adjust to the changes that it brings.

MOBLAND


Friday 18th September on Paramount+



MobLand returns this week to Paramount+ for its second series, with Tom Hardy back as loyal fixer Harry da Souza, alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as the unscrupulous heads of the Harrigan family, Conrad and Maeve.


The new ten-part series promises more chaos and carnage as the Harrigans struggle to show a unified front as rising rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire, and Harry Da Souza, their street-smart and formidable ‘fixer’, must walk a dangerous tightrope when tensions within the family intensify.


As violence spills into every corner of their lives, loyalties snap, safety proves temporary, and the battle for power leaves no room for mercy.


MobLand also stars Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Teddie Allen, Emmett J. Scanlan, Johnny Flynn, Ophelia Lovibond, Janet McTeer, and Toby Jones.
