It's a HUGE week for new and returning shows!



This week's best telly includes the highly anticipated and much-talked-about Strictly Come Dancing launch show as it enters a new era with new hosts Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe. And The Great British Bake Off returns with new judge Nigella Lawson.


Sunday night sees the launch of two big autumn dramas, The Split spin-off The Split Up on BBC One starring Ritu Arya and Sanjeev Bhaskar and The Blame on ITV1, starring Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth.


Sharon Horgan returns with new comedy Youth on HBO Max, and Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson team up to play fictionalised versions of themselves in new Apple TV comedy Brothers.


Elsewhere, Not Going Out returns for its 15th series and 5's anthology drama Play For Today returns with the first of six new stories.

 RETURNING ENTERTAINMENT

STRICTLY COME DANCING


Saturday 19th September at 7.25pm on BBC One

Strictly Come Dancing returns this week to BBC One for its 24th series, and there's a brand new hosting trio in the ballroom, as Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe and Johannes Radebe take the helm.


The launch show opens in spectacular style, with an incredible performance from the entire Strictly cast, as five new professional dancers make their entrance on the dance floor, and reigning champion Karen Carney returns to dance her iconic football jive with Carlos Gu.


As fifteen celebrities nervously wait to find out their professional partners, this year, there’s a twist! For the first time, each celebrity and Pro will discover the identity of their partner in front of the Strictly studio audience via three specially choreographed group dance routines.


And Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke return to the judging panel to keep a watchful eye over proceedings before the competition officially kicks off.


Expect high energy, surprises, and a whole lot of dancing as this year’s celebs are tested like never before!

THE SPLIT UP

Launching this week on BBC One is The Split Up, a new six-part drama based on Abi Morgan's The Split, which follows Manchester's Kishan Law, a powerhouse British-South Asian family firm in a story created by Ursula Rani Sarma.


Set in the charged world of Manchester’s high-net-worth divorce circuit, The Split Up centres on Kishan Law, a powerhouse British-South Asian family firm, and the go-to for the city’s elite.


The fast-rising star of Kishan Law is Aria Kishan, played by Ritu Arya, poised to step up and take the mantle from her father Dhruv, played by Sanjeev Bhaskar. However, the death of her mother has cast a new light over these plans for Dhruv, who has begun to wonder if his daughter can, or should, take on this responsibility single-handedly.


Aria’s relationship is placed under scrutiny too, with the wedding to her long-term partner Neal, played by Danny Ashok, on the horizon, but with their personal and professional lives so entwined it’s unclear if they can withstand any more pressure, a problem further compounded when a former secret flame, played by Dimitri Leonidas, arrives in Manchester unexpectedly.


Alongside her siblings Maya and Kav, played by Aysha Kala and Arian Nik, Aria must navigate the splits that divide family and those we love, and ask herself: who should you live your life for?


The series also stars Mawaan Rizwan, Sindhu Vee, Shalini Peiris and Tom Forbes and guest stars Lenny Henry, Jane Horrocks and Jameela Jamil.

THE BLAME

Launching this week on ITV1 is The Blame, a new six-part thriller based on Charlotte Langley's debut novel, which promises secrets, suspicion, and systemic corruption, all beneath the surface of a seemingly quiet town.


The Blame stars Michelle Keegan and Douglas Booth as DI Emma Crane and DI Tom Radley, as they dig deeper into what starts as a tragic death that sends shockwaves through the town of Wakestead, a murder enquiry soon spirals into a tangled web of lies, institutional cover-ups and moral compromise.


As the clock ticks and trust fractures, Crane must navigate both a murder investigation and the treacherous politics inside her own team.

YOUTH


Monday 21st September on HBO Max



Launching this week on HBO Max is Youth, Sharon Horgan's new comedy which follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown-up son.


It also stars Anne Reid, Aran Murphy, Freddie Fox, Rupert Friend, Sharlene Whyte and Harriet Walter.

 RETURNING COMPETITION SHOW

THE GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF


Tuesday 22nd September at 8pm on Channel 4

The Great British Bake Off returns this week to Channel 4 for its 17th series, as twelve new bakers enter the famous tent, hoping to impress Paul Hollywood and new judge Nigella Lawson.


Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding return to host the new series, promising more salivating Signatures, tantalising Technicals and sensational Showstoppers.


Nigella kicks off the new series as our fresh batch of bakers take on a stout cake Signature and put their artistic skills to the test in the Technical. Their creativity is pushed to the limit once again as they put their best face forward with a self-portrait Showstopper.


Who'll rise to the occasion and become first Star Baker, and who'll face being the first to leave?

 BRAND NEW COMEDY

BROTHERS


Wednesday 23rd September on Apple TV



Launching this week on Apple TV is Brothers, a new comedy starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as fictionalised versions of themselves.


Their lifelong friendship is thrown into chaos when they uncover a decades-old secret: they might actually be brothers. After Woody’s daughter’s wedding falls apart, he loads up the family and heads to Austin for an extended stay at Matthew’s ranch.


But what begins as a healing getaway quickly spirals when Matthew’s mother, Ma Mac, played by Holland Taylor, accidentally lets slip a long-buried secret that the two friends might actually be brothers.


As Woody turns the ranch upside down in pursuit of the truth, Matthew finds himself juggling an entirely different identity crisis: a potential run for Governor of Texas. The result is a heartfelt, chaotic and wildly funny story about friendship, family, fame and the messy line between myth and reality.

NOT GOING OUT

Not Going Out returns this week to BBC One for its 15th series, celebrating 20 years on our screens with six brand new episodes, with a documentary celebrating its 20th anniversary airing just before at 9pm.


In the new series of Not Going Out, twentieth celebrations are most certainly the theme of the day as Lee and Lucy very much regret hosting a twentieth birthday party for Lucy’s goddaughter in their house.  


Wisely, Lucy absolutely forbids Lee from leaving the bedroom to check that everything is OK in case he (inevitably) ruins the big day. But when Lee hears someone playing his precious, special edition Frankie Goes To Hollywood LP, he just can’t stop himself from rushing downstairs to save it.


As the rest of the series unfolds, it becomes clear Lee and Lucy’s life has not got any simpler since their children went to university. In fact, it seems as if trouble just follows them around.

PLAY FOR TODAY: WILD

Play For Today returns this week to 5 for its second series, with six new standalone stories, starting with Wild, which follows what happens on a lads' camping trip in the Scottish Highlands.


Wild stars Daniel Mays, Joel Fry and Amit Shah as Lou, Alistair and Dev, three old friends who are clinging to their annual wild camping tradition. But what begins with banter, nostalgia, and amateur vlogging soon unravels into a battle of egos, secrets, and survival when they get lost, food runs short, and friendships fracture.


At once funny, poignant, and unsettling, Wild explores the line between adventure and recklessness, and how toxic masculinity has become a huge part of the epidemic decline in men’s mental health.
