But will Tess Carmichael help Yaz to reopen the case into Heath's death?
7-13 DECEMBER
Having first thought her date with Yaz went reasonably well, Nicolette now wonders if she’s being rejected. Knowing she talked too much with Yaz about her exes, Nicolette can’t understand why Yaz is actively avoiding her at The Waterhole and Harold’s.
Taking Aaron’s advice, Nicolette goes to Yaz’s hotel room with her favourite treat and suggests another date would be nice, if Yaz is keen. However, Yaz doesn’t answer either way, but is drawn to the sober, fun version of Nicolette.
Eagerly showing the video of Heath she’s discovered to senior investigator Detective Holden, Yaz is sure the video will prove there’s more to the story behind her brother’s death and is desperate to see Holly face consequences for her role in what happened. And the detective promises to look into it thoroughly.
Back at work alongside Holly, Yaz can barely contain her grief-driven rage, but manages to hold herself together until she receives word from the detective.
Rushing back to hear his assessment of the video, Yaz is stunned and outraged when he reports it isn’t enough to reopen the case.
Returning to her room, Yaz lashes out at Holly before regrouping and posing as a lawyer, calls the prison and sets up a meeting with one of the inmates, Heath’s accomplice Tess Carmichael, under the guise of Leah Curtain, a lawyer representing Heath’s family, who are looking for closure after his death.
Tess agrees to give her account of what happened in the outback and after exploring their relationship, Yaz steers the conversation to Holly and explains how Heath’s family believe she should be investigated more fully with regards to the events leading up to Heath’s death.
But Tess wonders why “Leah” would think she’d be remotely interested in helping reopen the case and Yaz plays her trump card. There may be a way “Leah” can arrange a prison transfer so Tess can serve the rest of her sentence back in the US, near her elderly parents.
As Tess’s interest is piqued. Yaz’s efforts go according to plan.
Arriving at the prison, Krista meets with Tess who gets right to the point about Heath’s family hiring a lawyer to look into the outback saga with Holly as their main target. On Byron’s urging, Krista breaks the news to Holly, who spirals. Upset, she lets slip to Yaz that she’s seeing a therapist, leaving Yaz thrilled to get such a nugget of information.
When Yaz runs into Nicolette, the chemistry sizzles and laying her cards on the table, Nicolette feels a connection and wants to give it a go. And Yaz can’t help agreeing. But she’s soon brought back down to earth by a message from Tess’s lawyer saying she won’t be taking any further visits or deals.
